Somerset 66 Williamsburg 39

Williamsburg is a good team. They get to much hype though. The non-district schedule they had was horrible. They were playing teams such as Jellico, Mcreary Co., and Knox Central(best team they had played before somerset). To even think about competing against a team like Somerset you have to have some practice. Somerset is a big threat to win the Region good luck to the Jumpers. Also good luck to W'burg for the rest of the season.

I thinksome times this schedule thing gets kind of old...Wburg is the 6th smallest team in the state to play football....if Wburg had played Bell, Clay, Corbin the only thing different that MIGHT have happened would have been they would have gotten beat worse because of injuries...according to most peopleif everyone played the best teams in the state in non district schedule they they would breeze through district and win a state title...

Fever that make very little sense to Ol Bubba....should the Burg not play football due to size? Seems to me them boys are doing purity good. It comes down to this....what r your goals...to win games or to win championships....which you pick is up to the school

Ditto..what is who you beat in non district got to do with winning a championship..I didnt say wburg wasnt doing PURITY good...I was simply saying if winning championships was based on how difficult your non district schedule was then everyone would play the hardest non district schedule they could

You are right Fever....set your sights where you think you can hit the deer.

The tough pre-district schedule seems to be working out for the Jumpers. 0-4 Predistrict 135-66 in district. They weren't afraid of injuries, if you're afraid of getting hurt you're in the wrong sport, whatever your size.

Somerset could have played any 4 teams in the state and they would still be where they are in the district.Since I'm not playing anymore I'm not really afraid of getting hurt but if I'm coaching I would as soon my team stay as healthy as possible for districtplay

Sorry...I dont deer hunt..but I'm glad you think I'm right.

Again, why would playing a tougher schedule have decimated your team with injuries? If you can't put a team out there that can physically compete you're in the wrong sport--I guess if we follow you're logic then the entire team will get hurt when they play someone of any consequence. You're off base on this one, you condition your team to play, you play good competition to get ready then you play the games that matter. If you're afraid of getting hurt just schedule the district games or better yet take up golf. :thumb:

I actually think you are way off base. I dont care who the 2 teams had of played before they played each other...you personally could have sceduled the games before hand with the sole purpose of making the Wburg Sset game as close as possible and the outcome would have been the same.. Since Coach Herron got the job in late may I say he had no say in who Wburg was playing.....and I dont like golf:thumb:

Coach Herron will probably do a better job with the scheduling for the team now that he has the reigns. He'll mix it up a little. Keep a confidence booster on the team and get a couple of competitive teams to start getting ready for the district. In the district, we have to play 6 non-district games now, so that right there dictates that some tougher teams will end up on most everyone's schedule.

Playing a tough non-district schedule does help you in the long run. Proof, W'burg, there schedule is weak and it will hurt them down the road. I am not sure if W'burg will make the playoffs because they have it kind of tough now with Harlan and Lynn Camp in there Cawood is getting better too. Im not saying williamsburg is a bad team because the arent they have plent of talent just havent had enough competition yet.

With a school and team as small as W'burg playing large schools usually means you are playing bigger players. Williamsburg line is almost always a 20 to 30 pound underdog in weight to most schools they play now. There is only so much they can do with they have and playing these tougher opponents so to speak might make them better but at the same time it can hurt them (the cloudland game last year killed Wburg the rest of the year because they never recovered from those big ol TN boys). I mean Mcreary is what a 3A school (maybe 2), Jellico is twice the size of Wburg, Onedia is pretty good size also and won a championship in TN a few years ago, KC is 3a.... every school they play is bigger than them....want to talk about somerset playing a tough non-district next year? Will they play Corbin and Middlesboro to warm up for that new 3A disrtict they chose to play up in?

It isn't like they ducked anyone this year in the pre-district slate. But if you're going to give Williamsburg credit for playing such a big 3A powerhouse as McCreary (who if I'm not mistaken has never won a playoff game) and those giant 1A Tennessee schools like Jellico and Oneida it seems kind of a contridiction to down Somerset for moving up a class and playing bigger schools. You really can't have it both ways, by your logic Somerset should always be the underdog when playing bigger teams, I mean if poor little Williamsburg can't compete against the bigger schools surely Somerset can't either. The fact is they played 3 class 3A playoff teams and the likely 1A champ for a predistict schedule. They aren't crying about playing bigger teams and worrying about getting hurt. They took their lumps and now they are delivering them to their distict--to the tune of 135-66 the last 2 weeks. Sure bring Corbin and Middlesboro on, they might beat us but so what, we won't use size as an excuse.

who said it was an excuse for Williamsburg. Was just stating a fact that most of the time the line for Wburg is outsized and yet they still do pretty good. I realize Mcreary is not a power house but they are a bigger school, was just an example of what the burg has to face...and bring on Corbin and Middlesboro? Why not just stay in the same district with those schools?
