Just got home and was surprised this final was not posted. Story of two halves. Dixie scores on opening kickoff and a 58 yard keeper by QB Guenther to win the first half 16-0. Camels were lethargic and inconsistent through the air game throughout the first half. Obviously, it was time to change the game approach and the 2nd was all Dowd in a ground and pound clinic. I would guess he had over 200 yards total with 4 rushing TDs to lead the Camels to a well earned victory.

Dowd is a stud at running back. If Campbell can get the passing game more on cue I think they can compete for the district. Dowd will cause plenty of more defenses headaches.

Dixie returned the opening kick to start the season with a Touchdown to go up early 7-0. Campbell County made it to the Dixie red zone about 2-3 times in the 1st half but couldn't score off those trips. Dixie's QB Guenther had big touchdown run in the 2nd to extend the lead to 13-0. Dixie would then hit a field goal on the final play of the half to go up 16-0 into Halftime. In the 2nd Half the Camels committed to the run, Campbell County's RB Dowd took over in the 2nd Half Rushing for 4 touchdowns, all in the 2nd Half. Dowds rushes for his 1st TD on the first possession out Halftime, to make the score 16-6 Dixie. After the Camels D stopped Dixie, Dowds went on for his 2nd Rushing touchdown to make it 16-13, and that's when the momentum changed. Going into the 4th the Camels scored early making the score 20-16, Dixie would complete a huge pass on the next Possession that would put them in Camels' red zone, Guenther eventually rushed for his 2nd touchdown of the night, to regain the lead 23-20. The Camels then moved the ball up the field on the Dixie D while taking over 6 minutes off the clock, Dowds would score his 4th Touchdown giving the Camels the lead 27-24. Dixie's offense had 2 minutes and some change & no timeouts to work with, they turned it over on downs with a little over a minute to play.

Have purposely gone to 5 Camels games in last two seasons. SK, Ryle, Highlands, NC, and now Dixie. Have concluded that their pound and ground game is the key to their potential success. Their passing game has been entirely too inconsistent to make them competitive with the big dogs. Dowd is special and running him out of a more traditional QB under set could make him a much more deceptive challenge for defenses. Candidly, I find the shotgun offense for the Camels offensive talent level to be forcing a fit, predictable, and tonight it created a hole that to the Coach's credit they switched to ground and pound featuring Dowd and pulled out the victory.

I totally agree with your point about shotgun and its predictability. Many teams could cut back on it. If you have pounders in the backfield line up under center and it's good at disguising other options too.

I also would like to see a few plays run under center. It could be effective every now and again to keep defenses guessing. Dowds is a force and will punish any oncoming defender when he gets some momentum going. I saw 2 Dixie players immediately come off the field after tackling him when he was charging at them. I hope they're ok. Credit the CC offensive line also. They played well and bought time for Hoeh and opened some lanes for Dowds. On the defensive side of the ball, Anderson was all over the field and made plays all night. I really like Reid Jolly on D. This kid has grown significantly in the offseason and he had a great game. I like the new CC secondary but it was hard to get a read on them because Dixie didn't throw much. Next week at Highlands will give us a better indication of their impact.

Is Dowds also playing LB for the Camels D?

Was told by a stripe who did the game, that everything that could go right for Dixie in the 1st half went right and that everything that could go wrong went wrong for the Camels in that same 1st half but in the second half the Camels just wore Dixie down.

I'd say that's a pretty accurate statement. Dixie is a scrappy team and I hope they rack up some wins this year. Campbell has a lot of weapons but will need to eliminate a lot of momentum killing mistakes if they want to have the season they are capable of.
