September 27, 200620 yr Didn't know if anyone saw these comments from Shockey. Here is a link. Shockey's Coaches Comments Thoughts, comments....
September 27, 200620 yr "First and foremost, I'd like to say I'm a team person," said Shockey yesterday. "I'm very team-oriented and what I said was not a team thing to say. I do let my emotions get to me at times. That's just the competitive nature in me. I don't like to lose – I don't like to lose at anything…I'm a very hard person on myself and everybody in this locker room is hard on themselves as well. The most important thing here is that we have a couple of weeks off so everybody can get healthy. It's very important for us to get better in these next two weeks. We have a division game (against Washington). Our number one goal as a team is winning the division. I didn't mean to bring distractions, because I know it occurred. Again, I am a team person. My competitive nature and persona got the best of me there." Shockey said this the day after. http://www.bigblueinteractive.com
September 27, 200620 yr   Big deal made over nothing. Why because he apologized for it, and said it was all in the heat of the moment....Dont make me laugh. He meant it, and he will say it again when they lose and he doenst get the ball as much as he wants.

September 27, 200620 yr He said something he shouldn't have said...was it wrong? Yes. Was it a big deal? No. Its funny because next week, he will be trowing a tantrum, and waiving his hands up after everytime he doesnt get the ball.
September 27, 200620 yr Author He said something he shouldn't have said...was it wrong? Yes. Was it a big deal? No.I'm looking for comments and not sure what "big deal" implies. Publicly criticising your head coach, is crossing a professional line to me and same would be said, if a head coach publicly criticized a player, or players each other. These are the things to be discussed in locker rooms and behind closed doors. It's easy to ask forgiveness, being sincere is the hard to judge part.
September 27, 200620 yr Shockey's comments were wrong. He should have discussed any problems he had with the coach and/or owners. He probably made the comments in the heat of the moment. Still, he shouldn't have made those comments. The apology afterwards does do some damage control, on his part. I'm probably one of biggest Shockey fans in the state and I do not agree with his actions at all. I see a fine in his future, if not, that's the coaches decision.
September 27, 200620 yr The apology afterwards does do some damage control, on his part. I will have to disagree with you on this one PD. It is too easy for atheletes to apologize for things they say and do these days. And to me apologies are staring to mean less and less to me, bc they know thats the easy way to get out of it.

Athletes can and will apologize if it is meant or just to smooth things over. Public apologys are meant for the public to stop all the talk. Shockey should apologize to the coach and his teammates in the locker room.
