Julian Carroll Accused of Groping, Propositioning a Man

Featured Replies

Kentucky Senator, Former Governor Accused of Groping, Propositioning Man | The River City News

If Julian Carroll is gay then he's in serious denial, and if he isn't and "chose" to behave this way displayed in the audio file, then he's an exception to the rule regarding millions of homosexuals who "do not choose" to be attracted to the same sex, and explains why, from his own experience, thinks that homosexuals "choose" to be gay.

Whether or not he "chose" or just "Is", his anti-gay remarks related to Mayor Jim Gray, and his perception of it being a "choice" that you can "pray the gay away" to be converted and healed is a great sign of a weak and shallow man, and considering his position, a dangerous one at that.

Because they misunderstand them, some straight people might be disgusted by homosexuals, but I'm even more disgusted by men like him than my frustration with straight folks who have trouble understanding.

With some straights folks, it's a foreign idea to them where they have trouble wrapping their heads around it, but with people like Carroll it's an example of seriously confused individual, who to take any magnification off of himself, or to allow himself to even face himself, speaks out ignorant and shallow information about others, and misleads many more with the notion that it's a "choice".

If anyone needs help Mr. Carroll, it's you.

Agree with all you said. And as I've said many times before, those who are the most vociferous at spouting their hate of the homosexual community are often the ones who are dealing with gay feelings in their own life. Shakespeare had it right: "the lady doth protest too much, methinks."

Personally, I always felt the ex-Governor probably leaned gay. Too bad he just spouted hateful and ignorant comments rather than embracing his real truth.

I wonder how many of our fine representatives in Frankfort and in Washington are doing similar things. Again, the ones I would be concerned with most are those who engage in the most vocal and hostile rhetoric about homosexuality.

I appreciate the following quote from Pastor Rick Warren:

“Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”

The notion that someone's natural sexuality can be "disagreed" with would suggest that it is worthy of an "opinion" much the same way as if someone were to say...

"I'm right handed like the majority of the world, and can't fathom the idea of writing with my left hand, or comfortably throw a ball that way, so though I still love the minority of left handers, I just disagree with the idea that their left handedness is acceptably normal... someone must be wrong with them, or they're just choosing to use the wrong hand".

So if this last statement sounds ridiculous, that's because it is, just as is the premise that someone's sexuality is something that could be treated this very same way.

It is what it is, just as someone's handedness, and before anyone thinks that certainly everyone understands that people's handedness is just a normal part of their nature, remember that less than a hundred years ago religion frowned upon left handedness as a sign of the devil, and while thankfully our culture has advanced from that backward way of thinking, it still is dragging a little bit here and there regarding people's natural sexual inclinations.

The word "lifestyle" regarding homosexuality is an invented straight word that would suggest that someone just wakes up one day and says "Hey, I think that I'm going to be gay today"... It really just doesn't work that way. Those who think so need only to ask themselves if they consider their straightness a "lifestyle" choice, or how they'd feel if someone would suggest that it was.

If I lost my right hand, guaranteed I'd be able to learn to write with my left. A choice I'd have to make.

Granted, and because you'd be in the position to have to, sorta like so many straight men who turn to homosexual behavior while in prison.

Should gays learn to be straight simply because straights themselves couldn't fathom the idea of being gay?

What would suggest that it would be a "choice" they would have to make?

There's no shortage of naturally gay people for other naturally gay people to develop a relationship with, so why would they strive so hard to go against their own nature to be straight when they could easily follow their true inclinations, and be with someone who they're truly attracted to?

We have had this discussion before. I'm not inclined to ride this train again. Wish I had refrained from comment frankly.

Personally, I think this is quite a stretch. Comparing apples and oranges, or maybe even apples and nails.

But, this is America, and the great thing is we are all able to believe what we want.

This is the whole argument. I do not think this issue will ever be settled, therefore the debate will never cease. And there are people on both sides of the issue that are hard-headed and hateful.

Being a left-handed gay guy, I don't find it to be a stretch at all, and considering my left-handed mother had her left-hand tied to her desk as a child, and swatted with a wooden ruler if she had tried to write with it because of religion's ridiculous notion that it was the sign of the devil for her to do so, I completely see it as a worthy comparison of how people's perceptions can be distorted from reality by first trusting the subjectivity of unproven beliefs instead of sensible logical reality.

The issue may not be settled for people incapable of understanding, or have the interference of subjective beliefs distorting their perception, but it's most certainly settled for me because I have a first hand understanding of the reality that I am both naturally left handed, and gay, neither by a conscious choice. All the proof that I need is my own true reality, and the millions of others singing the same song only gives additional considerable validity to this.

If I appear to be hard-headed and unwavering in my stance it's because I "know" this be be true, unlike other hard-heads who only "believe" their perspective to be true.

Huge difference.

Democrats have stripped Carroll of his position of Minority Whip according to news break on the radio a few minutes ago.

Anybody else find the guys reaction to being propositioned somewhat...odd. I guess people react differently to the same situation, but turning into a little 11 yo girl, which is what the guy comes across as in the recording, is not the reaction I believe I would have nor would any man on this site. I just found it weird.

Secondly, the guy keeps talking about the investigation ending and the statue of limitations running out. Running out on what? The guy asked for oral sex, dude said no, and Carroll stopped and took him for coffee. Now, unless he took him to Starbucks, where's the crime?

Lastly...I would advise Carroll to be a little more careful when propositioning people for sex, especially for someone supposedly straight propositioning men for gay sex.

Stupid auto correct...that should be STATUTE of limitations.

The guy says that Carroll groped him, and while we can't see this on audio, there is a point in the recording where the probability seems possible considering the brief silence, and then the resumed dialogue, and his reaction.

When I watched the video where you could see the guy talking, my first thought was that he seemed troubled with maybe some mental disability, or emotional problems due to who knows what? With what seemed to be a poor self image, it wouldn't surprise me if he had a maladjusted upbringing with possible abuse.

It's interesting that he had the presence of mind to record it as he said that he found it peculiar why a "nobody" like him would be offered anything from a high profile person like Carroll.

Still, he seemed to have agreed to meet up with the genuine hopes that he could be helped with his goal of attending school, so when it became all too clear what he was expected to do to have this help awarded to him he became terribly disappointed mixed with nervous fear of being in the company of someone who was putting him in this uncomfortable situation, as well as a shot to his self-image with thinking that he could be seen as someone who'd perform with him, because Carroll made it sound like he asked him because he thought the chances were likely that the guy played that way before.

Though I have no way of knowing, because we don't know anything about his background, it's not entirely impossible that the guy had been molested as a child, and his reaction could've been a mental replay of a disturbing past mixed with no no no, not again, and if so he might be a person who has gone his whole life with a self-image of a past that he wanted to forget and to hide, yet is self-conscious that people could possibly read in his eyes what he had gone through.

Obviously all speculation with no proof of anything, however not completely impossible to imagine. Growing up in Covington, I frequently see people who have the look that screams that they had had an abusive upbringing, and a very hard life. To me this guy has this something about him that screams it too.
