The manager of the old Barleycorn's on 6th Street was one of the nicest, funniest, guys I've ever met. He had impeccable taste in music too, influencing what I listen to, to this day. The girls who worked for him would occasionally break out and serenade him with their version of this song, "Timmy Mac." I heard this today, and thought of him. July 23, 20179 yr I was watching "The Open" yesterday afternoon and heard a version of this on a commercial. Willie's version from his Stardust album came to mind to post, then I found this. He and Tony just seem to be so thoroughly enjoying the moment. Delightful.
July 25, 20179 yr Been awhile since I've spinned these guys, and of course one has to be in a certain frame of mind ready for this kind of harshness, however I still think that they were brilliant in their originality creating a genre all their own that hasn't been seen by any other bands since. These two songs were probably their more famous ones, but they have many more aggressive gems that you can't help but to graphically see in your mind the hard knocks trashy world that they paint for you. Abrasive yes, but so full of dynamic originality. Active from the late 80's until the mid-90's, Cop Shoot Cop from New York is one band that I regret never having seen live. For starters their sound was heavy with a two bass attack, with no lead guitars, but rhythm guitar yes, and drums that banged like back alley trash cans, and a bit of brass and piano to round it all out to give it distinction. Their 4 releases were brim full of gangster/horror movie soundtrack worthy slices of punk grit held together with truly well crafted cohesive tunes performed like a jazz club crooner and his musicians lives' gone horribly bad. After CSC imploded lead vocalist Tod A. went on to front his band Firewater through 7 more releases. [video=youtube;1RbnshwWL-A]
