June 19, 20179 yr To North Korea and back: Otto Warmbier's strange, sad trip - ABC News Unless this kid was a legitimate Spy, this demands a Military response! This kid was tortured! From this administration, I fully expect one. This in my view, combined with the recent antagonism from NK, merits a military response.
June 19, 20179 yr Kid took down a flag, gets basically tortured to death. I'm not sure going to war is the answer, but I'll support just about any response to those jack wads in NK.
June 19, 20179 yr Lost all respect for this answer. Go to NK with no electricity or food and derive their people of rights. Rip Otto.
June 19, 20179 yr I blame Obama for not working to get the kid out... I agree here. We seemed able to get Burghoff back.

June 19, 20179 yr I don't know what the answer is to this but something has to be done, doesn't it? I keep looking for more international outrage at this incident and there doesn't seem to be much. That concerns me and puzzles me.
June 20, 20179 yr I disagree that military response is the answer. I don't necessarily disagree that a military response isn't the answer, but it wouldn't bother me either if there was one if it is determined that the North Koreans intentionally did this to Warmbier. I'm curious though, if not a military response, what if any response would you suggest? Do we just leave it alone and take the North Koreans word that botulism caused his coma and didn't bother to tell anyone for over a year? In my mind I seriously doubt that's what happened. So if it didn't, we end up right back to the was it a human rights violation? Which could certainly warrant military actions.

The kid went voluntarily to a country that was dangerous. Sadly, he paid the ultimate price. The State Department has said they cannot guarantee safe returns for Americans and try to discourage them from going. Had he gone over there in an official capacity and they did this then I'd be open to the discussion. There may not be a good response. I'd think putting pressure on China may help but I doubt we'll do that. No good answer but putting lives at risk in a country that has nuclear weapons over a poor decision by a kid isn't worth it to me.

Outside of him making a poor decision by visiting North Korea with his school, we don't know if he made a poor decision. So basically what your saying is that if you visit a country that does not like American's then human rights don't matter. You essentially killed yourself by making a bad decision of visiting said country? While I'm not one that would ever think about visiting North Korea and a handful of other countries, human rights are still important to me. You can't just go kill or torture people because you don't like their native country. As far as military action, there are ways that we could do that without having to send anyone into harms way. There is a large group already over there sitting in the sea that could act on this without a single person going into harms way.

What do we do about the other Americans that are reportedly being held? If we do any strikes those three are likely to be killed(if they haven't already). As cold as this sounds Otto took a chance and lost. He made a very poor decision. He knew or should have known the risk he was taking to go to a country led by an unstable person. I hope others learn from his mistake. But I'm not sending those others to battle. Air strikes that have little chance of injury of loss of like? OK. Anything more than that? I'd vote no.
