June 8, 20179 yr Author I feel bad for those that are obese, but the bottomline for me.......it's not my problem so I really don't care, I've got other things going on in my life to concern myself with. Here is the issue with that. Their health care drives the cost of your premiums up. When you get into your 70s, the Healthcare system is going to be overtaxed....and it is all preventable.

June 9, 20179 yr Author True, but how to you purpose to fix this problem? That is another topic for another thread. I have TONS of ideas about that. This thread started to discuss the food industry and government's collusion in giving false information about what food choices were healthy, and doing nothing to right that wrong.

This wouldn't be the 1st time the Feds are guilty of these types of shenanigans.
June 12, 20179 yr So what is the solution to the 'unhealthy diets', consumed by a huge percentage of the population in this country? There have been education campaigns and mandated labeling in place for years, yet unhealthy choices are still made by many, every day. Is the answer to regulate what foods are allowed to be manufactured and sold? Should there be food police monitoring grocery stores to ensure that only 'Approved foods' are sold and purchased? Should school lunches be void of anything deemed "unhealthy"? Should parents be punished if kids are obese or are caught eating "unhealthy" foods? Maybe the government should be in charge of doling out food for the entire population. Only approved foods in approved amounts would be allowed. Everyone gets the same basic allotment based solely on household size and calorie limits. Weekly, mandatory blood tests to check for lipids and triglycerides to ensure that no one is cheating and eating beyond their allowed limits. Just imagine the savings that would be realized in lowered healthcare costs in the future!
June 12, 20179 yr Author I know that you are kidding around, but this burden on the health care system is real. Just wait. When many of you old people on here need MediCare and other programs, funding will be drier than it is now. These youngish (27-45) year olds w/ Type II diabetes, preventable cancers, neurological diseases can't work. They will be debilitated. At that point, everyone will realize how truly crippling this time right now is.
June 13, 20179 yr So what is the solution? Do we have to resort to any of the "solutions" I mentioned or do you have a better plan?
June 13, 20179 yr Author So what is the solution? Do we have to resort to any of the "solutions" I mentioned or do you have a better plan? Yes, the Government needs to crack down on the Food Industry and deceptive labeling. Second, the government needs to recreate the food pyramid since many agencies, doctors (incredibly), and even people trying to learn about nutrition for their own personal improvement hold it as a sound dietary guideline. Three, we need to stop this lie that exercising is going to make us lose weight. No, it will help us lose weight, but you will not burn enough fat purely by working out. People need to be educated about hormonal changes that accompany eating certain foods, and how it affects cells, to the point that they retain water, suffer allergic reactions like acne and migraines. That would be easy to do. Main thing would be the first 2. I'm not naive enough to think that people will follow the changes. Ultimately, they'll make their own decisions. My point is that there are a lot of people that want to do better, they just can't understand how. They keep getting fed wrong info. As long as I have to pay higher premiums for people being sick, I want society to minimize the preventable diseases.
June 13, 20179 yr Restaurants need to stop charging $7 for a salad and $1 for a burger. The dollar menu will win out every time with those who are struggling financially.

June 13, 20179 yr Or maybe people need to quit buying their food from fast food joints. Well, that's not going to change so...
June 13, 20179 yr You've lost me. People are not going to stop buying their food from fast food restaurants.
June 13, 20179 yr People are not going to stop buying their food from fast food restaurants. Then they have no gripe about what those restaurants are charging for what.
