The Tigers fought back from a 4-0 deficit in the 6th but fell a little short. Congratulations to Beechwood and Coach Bobby Mullins on an excellent season.

What surprised me about this game was every single Highlands run was the result of a Beechwood physical or mental error. Not the display of defensive soundness I have grown to take for granted from a Tiger team. Not sure, but did Coty get the save on a game he started while Rom got the victory as well as a blown save?

Going to repeat a very unusual (?) stat. Doty gets the Save on a game he started, and Rom gets a Win on a game he also earned a Blown Save. Don't think I ever heard of that combo.

According Article 7 of the NFHS rule book, a pitcher cannot be credited with both a win and a save.

I've seen this happen more than a few times in youth baseball, and at least a couple times in high school ball. It is rare, and likely will be even more rare with pitch count rules now in effect.

The Birds later went up 6-4 and he was brought back in to preserve the lead in the top of 7th for the Save. Rom gave up the tieing runs, but the Birds went back up 2 in bottom of 6th while he was still picher of record. So he got both a blown save, and the Win. Never seen this combo in my 71 years.

Was I right about Rom getting blown save and the Win? Operating from memory can be dangerous sometimes!
