2006 KHSAA State Volleyball Brackets Released

Featured Replies

So you think every sport should be that way or just volleyball?

:fight:

GOOD volleyball players are used to playing pool play over a weekend. This is the standard format for club volleyball tournaments.

You could never do this with Football or basketball. Baseball would be a possibility. Many club baseball tournaments are played this way.

For Volleyball, I think they need a facility bigger than OVVC though (in terms of spectator room). And better airconditioned. It was a sauna in there a couple weeks ago at the LIVT.

I think that watching GOOD volleyball, is in my opinion the best spectator sport out there. If they formatted the state tournament this way, I would go out and buy a new real comfortable sling chair, and get there early and watch volleyball all day. Regardless of whether my daughter's team was involved.

I don't think any other sport needs that format other than volleyball. I would watch volleyball all day if the state tournament was played that way. More money could be brought in and teams wouldn't have to make a trip to Frankfort to get eliminated by Assumption or any other team in the first round. Every team could be guarenteed three matches. 1st and 2nd of each pool goes on to bracket play the last place team(s) in the pool go home. That easy. Plus more quality teams wouldn't be left out, like Ryle, St. Henry/Notre Dame, NCC/Campbell/Highlands. Too many quality teams get left out because they are in the 9th and 10th region and eliminate each other. Same thing with Sacred Heart/Mercy/Presentation down in Louisville.

So what does everyone think???

I know it's Assumption's to lose but I'm just glad that the 13th Region has what would seem to be a much better draw in the first round than they've ever had. Hopefully my Rockcastle County Lady Rockets will get back for a 4th consecutive year and make a better showing than they have done in past years.

Does Rockcastle still play in the 13th region? I thought they were in the 12th now.

Volleyball is the only thing that they still play in the 13th Region.

Their district tournament is at Clay County with Rock, Clay Jackson, Red Bird and OBI in it.

It's actually a one day tournament with the following format:

Game 1 - Rockcastle County/Jackson County @ 5pm

Game 2 - (Semifinal #1) Clay County/Red Bird @ 6pm

Game 3 - (Semifinal #2) Winner Game 1/Oneida Baptist @ 7pm

Game 4 - (District Championship) Winner Game 2/Winner Game 3 @ 8pm

In look for Rockcastle County to defeat Jackson County and OBI easily in the first two matches and then initially struggle with Clay County in the finals before pulling it out 25-22, 25-14.

Now I'm not on here to say that Russell doesn't have a good team....they do....BUT they're NOWHERE near what they private schools in NKY, Louisville and even a few from the Western part of the state.

I did the PA announcing last year at the state tournament that was held here at NKU and while Russell won their match, I thought they looked very over-rated for their record.

Once again this year they have a very good record but what good teams have they played???? Only Rowan County whom they've lost to 3 times.

Like I said before the Russell program has a good team but the ONLY reason why they've been able to do anything at State is because they've received VERY FAVORABLE draws in the first round.

My picks for the regional champions:

1 - Christian Fellowship

12 - Southwestern

4 - Greenwood

16 - Rowan County

6 - Mercy Academy

3 - Owensboro Catholic

7 - Assumption

10 - Newport Central Catholic

14 - Letcher County Central

15 - Belfry

11 - Lafayette

2 - Madisonville-North Hopkins

9 - Notre Dame Academy

8 - South Oldham

13 - Rockcastle County

5 - Green County

I think you were abit off on your predictions for the 16th:ylsuper:
