2006 KHSAA State Volleyball Brackets Released

Featured Replies

History says that an EKY school is gone early. The level of competition and the lack of strong feeder programs does not allow them to compete with the traditional powers who are simply deeper and at a different level.

Could Russell be the exception? Absolutely. However, if you had to bet, you'd bet against them faring well.

I dont care really who wins the tourney as long as a private school dont.

Unfortunately for you, they will.

A private school team absolutely will win the state tournament...no questions asked. While I beleive it will be Assumption...if it is not...the only teams that could come close to beating them are the private schools.

I believe you mean "a private school doesn't". You most certainly will be disappointed by the outcome of the state tournament if that is your hope.

Who is the top-ranked public school in KY?

The Jefferson Co. invitational is this weekend and features the best public schools in the state, Lafayette, Butler, South Oldham, Beechwood, Manual and Dunbar. I would say the winner of this tourny could lay claim to the best public in the state. An unofficial, outdated poll has Butler, Lafayette and Manual at 8, 9 and 10.

I checked out the Russell schedule and do not see any state ranked teams. I am not saying the teams Russell plays are not talented but maybe not in the realm of the Assumption's or even the Butler/Ryle/Beechwood group.

I would find it very difficult for any public school to win state in volleyball, though I would love to see it.

All due respect, Russell did not fare well at the cake classic. I can't imagine any circumstance under which they could beat Assumption or NDA.

CVB, I also would like to see a public school win state. Not holding my breath though.

Now I'm not on here to say that Russell doesn't have a good team....they do....BUT they're NOWHERE near what they private schools in NKY, Louisville and even a few from the Western part of the state.

I did the PA announcing last year at the state tournament that was held here at NKU and while Russell won their match, I thought they looked very over-rated for their record.

Once again this year they have a very good record but what good teams have they played???? Only Rowan County whom they've lost to 3 times.

Like I said before the Russell program has a good team but the ONLY reason why they've been able to do anything at State is because they've received VERY FAVORABLE draws in the first round.

My picks for the regional champions:

1 - Christian Fellowship

12 - Southwestern

4 - Greenwood

16 - Rowan County

6 - Mercy Academy

3 - Owensboro Catholic

7 - Assumption

10 - Newport Central Catholic

14 - Letcher County Central

15 - Belfry

11 - Lafayette

2 - Madisonville-North Hopkins

9 - Notre Dame Academy

8 - South Oldham

13 - Rockcastle County

5 - Green County

What's the closest any KY team has come to Assumption this year?

NDA went 20-25, 20-25 with them in the LIVT.

I believe that was Russell County at Cake Classic, not Russell HS(above)...nonetheless, same outcome.

OOPS! My apologies.

If you ask me the true state tournament was held when the LIVT was played. The best teams in the state come together to play each other in a pool play style tournament the way it should be. Let the top 20-24 teams in the state play a three day weekend tournament starting on Thursday night and going till Saturday afternoon. Survival of the fittest. Pool play/Double elimination. That's the way you crown a champion in volleyball.

So you think every sport should be that way or just volleyball?
