I think because the POTUS believes he is not loyal and wants to stop the Russian stuff. He just brought it to a level he probably didn't want. He fired someone that was investigating him and/or his staff. I see it no other way. If he or his staff didn't do anything wrong let it happen. I believe he had something. You can bet your bottom dollar the next director won't have anything even if he does.

I think Bengal Maniac articulated it very well. With the investigation of Russia going on and Comey's role in that investigation it looks incredibly fishy for him to be fired now when both sides of the aisle seem to agree he should have been fired at points that boosts their personal agendas. Democrats said he should have been fired when he went public on Hillary. Republicans said he should be fired when he cleared Hillary. People are going to complain regardless. For me, the timing of this firing looks fishy and I'm not buying any of the spin. Especially if the Russia investigation disappears.

To your first point, Comey's agency, the FBI was handing the investigation, not James Comey. And anyone that thinks the investigation is not going to be followed through or tanked (like Comey did with the Clinton Email Felonies) is way off base in my opinion.

 

On your second point, the President is within his rights to fire the FBI Director, which makes your point a non-starter.

 

To your third point, I thought it was still being termed a counter-intelligence investigation, if so, that is not a proper use of a special prosecutor. If if turns criminal, then I agree a special/independent prosecutor should handle the case.

 

And if we want to talk about special prosecutors, before we do anything we should hire a special prosecutor to go back and investigate the Clinton Email case from scratch and let the special prosecutor make the decision on what to do.

The people that are against the firing of Comey only really have one talking point and that is he was investigating President Trump so it was the wrong thing to do. The people that are for the firing of Comey have a bunch of different FACTS they can articulate which are summarized in the opening post of this thread.

I have a hard time trusting Trump as well and my gut says the investigation will be compromised. The liberal talking point floating around now is that there have now been three people fired by Trump that were in charge of investigations into his administration. It looks fishy just like it would have looked fishy if Obama had fired Comey the day after the election.
