IMO, the key play of the game was when Whitley Co. went for it on 4th down in their own territory and failed when the ball carrier slipped and fell short of the 1st down marker. This allowed the Indians to drive for the game winning field goal.

Great win for the Indians...congrats.:thumb: Anyone have any standings after tonight games of this district?

Lincoln Co. 2-0

GRC 1-0

North Laurel 1-0

Mad. Cent. 1-1

Montgomery Co. 1-1

Whitley Co. 0-2

South Laurel 0-2

Whitley County and South Laurel took major steps back in the district race this week. Lincoln County has likely established themselves as the top team in the district, although I think when its all said and done, Clark and Madison Central will be much improved as the season goes along. And then don't forget about North Laurel, a definite darkhorse in this district.

Radio said after the game Madison only had like 30 plays for about 170 yards while Whitley had 420 for about 70 plays. AND THEY LOST? How???? I only caught the post game.

The Indians survived this game, bigtime. Whitley like MC's last two opponents ran the ball well all night. MC's defense is just young and doesn't tackle well at all. They did come up big tonight scoring two TD's. Ricky Rhodes scored on an interception return and Keyshawn Simpson returned a fumble for a TD. Rhodes also stripped a Whitley ball carrier and ran it back for 30 yards or so.

MC's offense never got clicking very well. They had one really good drive throwing a lot of short passes. Ricky Rhodes had two TD catches. On the 2nd TD catch, he leaped into the endzone and a questionable personal foul was called. Central's kicker then missed the 35 yard extra point to make it 28-27 Whitley with 4 minutes or so to go. MC's defense then finally came up big on a 4th and 4. MC drove the ball inside the 10 and kicked the game winning field goal with 9 seconds to go. Sloppy game overall but Central's D came up big with a couple 4th down stops.

For Central to win any more games they must tackle much better and not let teams gain 5 or 6 yards on 1st down. Their defense has come down to either getting a turnover or giving up a TD.

MC's play calling sometimes puzzles me, it's either big play or nothing. They take WAY TOO long to get the plays in as well. This was obvious at the end of the game tonight.

Good win for a young team, they can only get better from here and they have 3 very tough road games the next 3 weeks.

#42 Cody Jenkins for Whitley had a great game for the Colonels tonight.

I think you hit the nail on the head! :thumb:

you cant forget about montgomery co. being a darkhorse, either, they beat a good madison central team, and played a good GRC Team very tough

Whitley will not win another game this year, IMO. The district is too tough and they have a tendancy to fold this year. Tough loss friday, but it had it's positives. Just not Whitley's year. Maybe next year when the kids are in the system for a season.

According to the newspaper accounts, Whitley did not fold against Madison Central. Sounded like they did everything but fold, trying to win the game.

Never said they did. Never said they folded every night. We're their only win and they finally beat us down in the 4th qtr. They took care of business that night, but have been mostly down since the Bell Co. loss. They have only lost to Lynn Camp once in 16 years, and should beat most single A's, being a 4A. Just not taking care of business in the district. New coach, new system, it's going to happen. It takes time to learn the system.

You said they had a "tendancy to fold." I'm sure the only game you've seen them play is the LC game. So if they didn't fold in the game you saw, how can you say they "have a tendency to fold."
