March 29, 20179 yr I didn't even realize until just now having researched it that the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" had been released by numerous artists since as far back as 1939 and many many times over the years, but the only one that I was familiar with is the one by Robert John that went to #3 on the U.S. charts back in 1972 when I was 8. It mostly got on my nerves, while my best friend, who rarely paid any attention to music thought that it was the best thing going. Honestly I probably dig it more now than I ever did then.
March 29, 20179 yr I know that I'm supposed to adore Joni Mitchell as a hippy goddess, and while I do respect her as an original prolific songwriter, I could never jump all the way on her train, and that signature jazzy quirky thing that she does with her voice to bend a note normally just gets on my nerves and crawls up the back of my neck. A good example would be "Help Me" and while I say all of this she does unmistakably evoke feelings of a folky hippy era that I very much love. [video=youtube;XOEE-kR-Txg]
