March 29, 20179 yr I submit this gem.....JEEEEEZ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpJ0cyXbMbI I suppose that I might've unconsciously heard this tune back in '75 when it was released (I was 11) but I absolutely don't recall it, yet the first time that I consciously heard it was in the 1998 movie "Velvet Goldmine" starring Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys Meyers that recalled the '70's glam rock days with a story loosely inspired by David Bowie and Iggy Pop. Because I dug this movie so much and the music in it, I bought the soundtrack and played it to death, and within the context of the theme of the movie "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" worked so perfectly that the soundtrack wouldn't be the same without it. I can't separate it from the movie and the grooviness of the soundtrack as a whole.

That's cool and I promise that I wasn't trying to sell it but rather just saying how it found its way to work for me since I paired it up with a movie that I really dug. It is cool that you posted it because though I've heard it on the soundtrack many times I was never fully aware of its origin, or had remembered the artist's name. The soundtrack was a combination of classic glam rock tunes by the original artists, along with either remakes or newer original songs by current bands inspired by the glam genre. I had a hunch by its sound that it was an original from the 70's, but since never having remembered ever hearing it back in the day I wasn't sure.

Just in case you haven't had enough of the song, or are starting to regret ever having posted it...:lol2:... Though he does go embarrassingly flat at times, here's an interesting performance of Steve Harley doing the tune backed by an orchestra in 2011. While the tempo is on point with the original there's a bit of a different vocal approach to the tune that sorta reminds me of Billy Bragg and not so signature sounding as the original. More than anything it's interesting to see him suited up as a 60 year old senior, (he's now 66) however it feels a bit like a 2nd rate artist trying too hard to squeeze every drop out of perhaps his one memorable hit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgyFpyaAXCI
