Big Fundamental
Ouch. Hall with only 5... that's stunning. Such an excellent player. I guess CovCath really knows how to stop their opponent.
Clyde
Ouch. Hall with only 5... that's stunning. Such an excellent player. I guess CovCath really knows how to stop their opponent. He is talented. CCH didn't do anything special. They just guarded hard on the perimeter and made it tough to get any good looks.
that's what she said
Confused by NCC's rotation most of the game. Wurtz on the bench early, often and for long stretches without being in foul trouble, why? Numerous times during the game, even in the 3rd and beginning of the 4th qt (when they should be trying to cut into the big CCH lead) they had 4 players on the court that had zero points. They played 8, 9, maybe 10 players from beginning to end, just never got into any rhythm. Does NCC typically go that deep down the bench? Would it have helped to keep your primary scorers on the floor together for longer stretches of the game?
Yellow Card
Ouch. Hall with only 5... that's stunning. Such an excellent player. I guess CovCath really knows how to stop their opponent. I am not sure I would go as far to say it's stunning. Hall is a very nice player but this is not the first time I have seen him have very little impact in a game this year. frankdracman23
All in all got to think it was a disappointing season for NCC. Make no mistake the best two teams are playing for the Region Monday night, but it has to be disappointing for NCC to lose by such a large margin to CovCath and Cooper during the season and now CovCath in the Regional. What is perplexing is this is probably the deepest NCC in quite awhile. As a small school depth is often the problem against schools 3 or 4 times larger. And it may have been the biggest factor in having some very good teams in the last 8 years but only 1 Regional championship. Obviously NCC had dominated in that period in the All-A but then ran into some excellent 9th region teams in the Regional. But again depth is not a problem this year. So what is? Granted Weyer was an excellent player for NCC last year and the Andersons were solid. But losing 3 players (like most teams do) seems to have a larger effect on NCC than what would be expected. Remember this was a team that made it to the Sweet 16 Semis. And again both Cooper and CovCath are very good teams. And while a loss is still a loss, I think most would have chalked a 5 point loss to CovCath up to CovCath just being a better team this year and a loss to a school 3 times larger in a non-class state. But getting blown out should be unacceptable with the talent NCC had returning. It would appear that NCC never settled on a rotation but maybe that is not as easy as it would appear. Maybe players were just inconsistent from game to game or in practice I don't know. But while 20 wins at a small school that plays a tough schedule is an accomplishment, it has to be less than what was expected after last year. colonel-fan
From the Cincy Enqurier: Covington Catholic defense handles NewCath in semis CovCath junior guard C.J. Fredrick said after the Colonels won the 35th District championship he thought they could and would take their game to another level at the regional tournament, particularly on the defensive end. Fredrick's words proved to be prophetic Saturday night as the Colonels blew out NewCath, 60-32. Cole VonHandorf led the way with 19 points, Fredrick added 18, and Aiden Ruthsatz pitched in with 11. The Colonels turned an 11-point halftime lead into a 28-point victory by outscoring the Thoroughbreds 19-5 during the third quarter.

Yellow Card
What did Walter do? Not too much. I think he only took one shot from the field, his only points were off a couple of free throws, he probably had about 4-5 boards
KentuckyJoe
That's not good for a kid his size. Granted not a chance he is as tall as they annoumce. Seems to frequently underperform
that's what she said
Not sure why some continue to question the play of Walter. It is still very, very early in his development. Most teenagers his size are slower to develop in many athletic aspects when compared to more average size players. It has been noted on here he is a very young junior and how much BB has the kid played? Wasn't he more of a football player in middle school and freshman yr of HS? And he is at best CCH's 5th (scoring) option, maybe 6th or 7th. It has also been mention on BGP that Walter is attracting some interest from college coaches. Nothing personal but I trust college coaches' evaluation over BGP commentators. I'm not picking on Wurtz from NCC, but did he score last night? No one asking "what did Wurtz do?" Or commenting "That's not good for a kid his size. Granted not a chance he is as tall as they annoumce. Seems to frequently underperform" When I watch Walter play I see a kid that has worked his butt off, has great footwork for a 6'-10' (or however tall he is) 16 yr old. Plays with passion and 100% accepts his role. I'll take him on my team every chance I get.

According to the above stats NCC took 22 of their 41 shots from 3 point territory and made 2. That's 2 for 22. Wonder about shot selection????
