Fern Creek 72 Valley 62 (6th Region Semi-Final)

Recommended Posts

Fern Creek had four in double figures again...Anthony Wales 17, Ahmad Price 14, Clint Wickliffe 14, & Tony Rogers 12. Fern Creek had a 18 point lead with 2:30 to go and Valley made one last furious comeback getting it below 10 before they ran out of time.

A coach's nightmare - several players came with their away uniforms instead of their home uniforms (or vice versa). Someone then had to go get the correct uniforms.

Definitely weird, but not sure it made a difference in this one.

So the boys eventually dressed?

It did make a difference. I believe FC jumped out to a 14-0 lead after starting the game with a T. Valley is the host school. Playing in your home gym and you don't have some older uniforms around. I'm certainly not in favor of letting teenagers in charge of their uniforms to begin with. Its what happens when your coach usually shows up 15 minutes before games. The players had to leave and go home to get them. Valley has as much talent as anyone in the region. Just don't run the program right.

How do you really feel about Valley and Coach Wheat? Hahaha. I agree that they should have some old uniforms around, and should have known they'd been designated the home team. But shouldn't Fern Creek have been the "home" team due to seeding?

You dont seed regionals they draw. Valley/Southern was at the top of the bracket. Clearly stated that the top team in the bracket is the home team. My guess they didnt read the info. As for Wheat, he has done some good on the floor coaching. They ran a nice system. Problem is there is more to running a program. He has to take complete charge of this

program. After the game, Valley players in the gym with uniforms on. Tells me no one took them up after the last game. Valley will be chasing uniforms all spring

There aren't any seeds in any regional tournament. It's usually top team is home, etc. I saw Valley in the LIT and they looked like a rec league program. I think one coach had jeans on, and there were random people on the bench.

Any excuse people give for a mistake like this in a post season game, is just ridiculous. Wheat needs to own it and say it's his fault, but he probably won't,

It was weird for both teams, obviously the advantage went to FC to gain an early cushion, but as youngsters they found themselves in an unexpected situation as well which threw them off a bit too. Nobody is mentioning that Coach Schooler opted to take two starters out of the game (1 the leading scorer) to teach a life lesson. Not many coaches are going to do that in a game where the season is riding on it. It was not a off court incident or anything bad either of these kids did, but rather an attitude they displayed the previous game while on the bench. Moore sat until midway through the 2nd quarter so that impact was equally felt. Valley brought it back to 3 before FC had a strong finish to the half. It was actually about 4 minutes left in the game that FC led by 19 and simply played to run out the clock which Valley capitalized on with a big closing run. Kudos to valley for not quitting when they could have and kudos to FC to overcoming their adversity that served a life lesson for two young men that came with some risk for the coach.
