February 26, 20179 yr Given the current political landscape what are the things that's gonna unite us? We have had several threads on this line in the past but we are a month or so into Trump's run and to me it looks like the line is only getting more clear. Can we unite as a country, or to some degree, agree to disagree? The current state, in my opinion, is not helping our country. What would be your suggestions? My first suggestion is to come to some sort of middle with the press. They are keeping this stuff front and center. Trump uses it to fire his base up and to some point I think he is growing his base from this. Nobody pretty much I know and this is only me, trusts the press at all when you talk to them. I think this is where it starts because of the sheet nature of that situation. Its dividing even more our great country. Second point. If we can not unite to some degree whats the solution? We cant just have both sides always trying to destroy the other side, whether it be the right trying to take down the left or vice versa. I understand we are not always gonna agree and thats a good thing, but we have come to a point that this is hurting America( in my opinion).
February 26, 20179 yr A healthier economy, especially in urban and rural communities, will make people forget about their differences with Trump.
February 26, 20179 yr I've said it a half a dozen times on here: infrastructure and turn on Congress over healthcare.
February 26, 20179 yr Pearl Harbor, Alien Invasion I dont think even that would anymore. People dont want to be united anymore.
February 27, 20179 yr Leadership from elected officials. When they become statesmen instead of closed minded partisans, that will lead the populace from the edges. They need to find solutions through compromise on tough issues instead of looking for pelts on the wall. There is no better example of this today than health care.
February 27, 20179 yr Democrats are only interested in compromise when they are out of power. Republicans need to stop conceding ground when they hold all of the cards. By throwing General Flynn under the bus, Trump set a bad precedent. Republicans refused to use the power of the purse in negotiations with Obama and consequently, compromise during the past 8 years consisted of Congress talking tough to save face while Obama kicked sand in that face. Republicans have to start standing firm on core principles while working with Democrats only where they can find common ground. My impression of Republican leaders in Congress is that they lack the guts to engage in tough negotiations. They take a harder line with Ted Cruz than they do with Chuck Schumer.
