Simon Kenton 2017 Schedule Brutal or Brilliant?

Featured Replies

I understand what you are saying now but in regards to what GCL teams need for their schedules, I disagree. GCL teams already play a very tough schedule and in some cases, a murderous schedule. They don't need to be tested any more than they already are. The GCL schools already play 3 tough conference games, typically will play Cleveland St Eds and/or Ignatius, a very good Indy school like Chatard or Cathedral and a very good Ky team like Trinity or X. Throw in one of the early games against an out of town school like Don Bosco and you have a brutal schedule. I have not even mentioned Colerain who Cincy X and Lasalle typically play. If you take one of those games out and sub in a SK, the GCL schools would still be playing a very tough schedule...and they would love the Harbin points and the extremely good chance at getting a W.

Seems to me like a cakewalk game (and a game with SK would be a cakewalk for any GCL school or big OH school) with lots of Harbin points possible would be exactly what they would seek.

I'll break it down game by game before giving my overall opinion.

X scrimmage - A solid choice, both squads get a chance to practice for their upcoming season and examine different players in various roles.

Meade County - Less puzzling back in 2014 when the Green Wave was in the semi-finals. They are on the downslope now and not a great choice for SK.

Highlands - Normally a very strong team and a great choice. Currently in a down period, but a worthy team to keep on expectation of their return to strength

Bryan Station - A mid-level Lexington team. Not a bad choice, but not exciting either.

Beechwood - A true puzzler. Beechwood is a fantastic 1A team, but SK is a 6A team that seemingly wants to be top 5 in the class. If they do they have no business playing any 1A team no matter how good.

Boone County - A weak team, but district.

Cooper - Mid to high level NKY team. A solid choice.

Conner - Mid-level NKY team.

Campbell County - A weak team, but district.

Dixie - Mid-level NKY team; a questionable choice unless they are expected to improve.

Ryle - One of the top NKY teams. A solid choice.

Overall: Not bad, but nothing on this schedule will really push the Pioneers or prepare them for a deep playoff run. They have some good mid-level teams, but few at or above their own level. The inclusion of some games, especially considering that they are have two soft games thanks to their district, are puzzling. Replacing Meade County, Beechwood, BS or Dixie with Scott County, Lafayette, Bowling Green, St. X, Trinity, or a Cincinnati team would strengthen it considerably and produce a solid schedule.

This type of thread is like watching re-runs of Brady Bunch. It's the same thing every year and at the end of the season it's the same results for SK. They can't compete with any of the big boys from the Ville and they usually get knocked out of the playoffs pretty early.

They are touted year after year as being great only to be disappointed once the post season starts. It doesn't matter who SK schedules.

The only team SK has struggled with is Trinity. SK has made it to state before and beat Male before. This years SK team has more deprh at every position than any year. Can't wait for the season to start.

The only team they have struggled with was T? That must mean they have made it to the title game year in and year out unless they faced T before the finals. How many times over the last 6-7 years have they been knocked out of the playoffs by T? How many finals have they made?

How many times has SK put Cooper put?

Simon Kenton's schedule to me says "meh" a lot more than being brutal.

There are probably 5 or 6 smaller class schools who will field a schedule as difficult.

In fact, I will even say I think their schedule is easier than 2016. CAL would probably be better than any of their Non-District games in 2017.

SK has lost 51 times since 2004.. How many times a year do you play Trinity???

Not in 6a.

Not following you. There is a reason there are schools. The population of the area. They build schools if they need to. Obviously there not being as many schools around BG means the population isn't as big. BG isn't even 6A and doesn't have all those schools around it. So again, it's obvious there aren't enough kids to warrant a lot of other schools.

I wasn't going to say anything, but it drives me batty that all the excuses are always "no one is can compete with them". I'm glad no one ever told me that in my career in any sport.

And the last I checked, with the exception of Dixie getting beat in the finals a couple years back, NKY is not losing to Male, X or T in the playoffs. So lets talk about competing with them when we actually earn the right to even get there to compete.

Take a look at the new thread of X's schedule... that is what you call brutal.. wow!

How many times has SK knocked Cooper out of the playoffs you ask? I think 1 time and that was by 1 point. Yet with that said I don't remember anyone from Cooper spouting off every single

year that they are going to run the table and win the state title. Every single year over the past 7 years.

Actually Cooper has been more

Succesful and made

it further in the post season than SK has in that same time frame. Yet it's you who always over estimate SK's playoff runs year in and year out as they usually get knocked out early more times than not.

Let's revisit this shall we? I did your research for you. You say the only team SK has struggled with was T. Seems we have to go all the way back to 2011 for that butt whooping when T handed it to your SK by beating you 71-0. So apparently you all have no problems with anyone else according to you, but wait!!!! This can't be true...you all haven't faced T at all in the last 6 seasons. So maybe these are the teams that really gives SK problems as these are all the ones that sent SK home packing. Scott Co in 2012, Butler in 2013, Dixie in 2014, Lafayette in 2015 and deja vue Lafayette again in 2016. How many of those teams win titles in that time frame? SC? That's it? Hmmmm seems SK struggled against just about everyone south of the tri county. Especially Lafayette. They have SK's # lol

Need an extra large bag of popcorn for this great stuff from HB
