Adding the s to extremists is misleading. You are talking about a handful of people from my recollection. We are talking hundreds to thousands of Islam.

 

I don't think it is a fair comparison to compare these two.

 

While I abhor the bombing of abortion clinics and do not value the action in any way, shape or form, comparing violence on an abortion clinic that murders babies to violence done because of a cartoon drawing seems to be not a good comparison.

There are many (but not nearly enough) Muslims that disavow the actions of the terrorists, just as you wish to wash your hands of those that bomb black churches in the south, or assassinate doctors that perform abortions in the name of Christianity. If one is going to force the Muslim faith to "claim" the actions of these Islamic extremists, then Christianity is forced to wear the actions of those that commit such acts in the name of Christ. If you wish to distance yourself from the likes of Fred Phelps and Pat Robertson, then you must extend the same logic to the peace loving Muslims of this world - whatever percentage of the followers of that faith they represent.

I have seen individual Christians make stupid comments. But Christians are imperfect people that screw up on a weekly basis. Some, who like to make excuses call that hypocrysy. I don't. That is being an imperfect person that we all are.

You and I are both aware of that, and it happens in both liberal and conservative media outlets. I see the same programs that you do, but I have to point out the fact that we don't see these same marches by Islamic churches here in the US. Why is that? They certainly have the right to do so, if they choose. It seems to me that a lot of what we see on TV, regarding support for Islamic terrorists, is not truly indicative of the vast majority of the followers of that faith. To me, the troubling aspect is that those that don't support the terrorists are woefully quiet when they should be (in my opinion) decrying these acts loudly and unceasingly.

On the media, absolutely they distort their view to shape the message to the point that they get the ratings/response they wish. But here is the thing, there are Muslim communities that are rallying in support of the violence and they show them. If there were Christian communities doing this they would break their necks trying to get this video on television. But there is an absence of it.

 

And when a person who claims to be of their religion does something stupid, there is a void on both sides. That might be as much of a media not wanting to portray that image because it kills the story instead of inflames it. And that means ratings go down, profits go down and that doesn't fit with their bottom line.

 

It used to be the bottom line for the NATIONAL/STATEWIDE media was keeping government in check for the benefit of the citizens. Now the bottom line is profit.

Phelps and his Westboro church get their money from the combined incomes of his congregants, who live in the fortified Westboro compound. They've also received money from several lawsuits. Phelps and bin Laaden are both surely Satan's spawn.
