Scott really attacked the basket early, while playing an intense trapping defense, leading to a myriad of fouls and made free throws that led to a 25-13 first quarter advantage for the Eagles.

With the score 12-8 a crucial series of events had a (possible) bearing on the way the first half played out. 1) Brossart missed a point blank shot 2) Jake Ohmer apparently runs over Bryce Kremer, who has made a career of standing in and taking charges. It was called a block. They count the basket and shoot one, and Ohmer dodges picking up his second foul. 3) Shortly thereafter Ohmer again apparently runs over a Brossart defender, Bryan Duffy, and again it is called a block. Jake goes to the line, hits both, and again dodges picking up the personal foul(s) that would have sent him to the sideline. Scott emerges with a 19-8 lead, and Ohmer plays on with a single foul.

 

Eagles attacked the basket with veracity, drew fourteen Brossart fouls, resulting in 20 of 23 made first half free-throws. Scott defense forced Brossart to struggle on offense, contributing to the 44-23 halftime deficit.

 

Jake Ohmer, who victimized the Mustangs for 32 points last time out, got plenty of help from his teammates which has to make Coach Fro very happy. Ohmer did put up 19 to lead the Eagles, but had help from Nelson Perrin with 18, Tim Jolley with 11, and Chad Ohmer with 8. The Eagles ended the night hitting 26 of 30 free-throws.

 

Brossart sophomore Bryan Duffy did his best Jake Ohmer imitation in the second half, scoring 17 points to lead all scorers with 23 and earn him a spot on the 37th District All-Tournament team. Brossart too, hit their free-throws, connecting on 17 of 19, for a combined 43 of 49 from both teams.

 

Scott advances to play Campbell County Friday night at 7pm

 

The Mustangs will benefit from the events of this season, return the entire roster, less two seniors Bryce Kremer and Luke Flottman, and expect to be right back in serious contention in 2017-18.

First time I've seen him play. Great athlete, super quick, but he got some very favorable calls early. Knows how to move his body to get into position or out of danger.

I've said this before, the "stars" seem to get favorable calls. Officials make sure they stay in games.

Was seated right by the basket where the block calls were made, both were called correctly.

 

Kremer was not set when Ohmer took off as he slid underneath and Duffy was already falling back when contact was made.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my biased thinking part.

Bryce Kremer appeared to be set and waiting when hit the first time. He has taken 16 charges this season and over the years knows how to position to get the call. I personally didn't get a great look at the Duffy call. My broadcast partner, who has been around the game forever and is familiar with the idiosyncrasies of our team was pretty adamant that Ohmer initiated the contact and that Bryan took the hit.

 

Whatever, those were two calls that had they gone the other way, could (as I stated) have changed the way the first half played out.

 

I'm not beginning to insinuate that the officials cost us the game - we lost by 21. The Eagles attacked the basket and were rewarded with 30 free-throws. When our Bryan Duffy decided that two could play that game, he attacked the basket and went on to score 23 points on the night.
