They already do, more than one American has been murdered while still on U.S. soil or water. Yes, we do need Mexico as a strong ally. I think that the main reason of cancelling trip by President Nieto is to save face and then later discuss this more quietly. Mexican LEOs will be safer also if they can get control of cartels and resulting gangs. Also get the government and Mexican military on the same page.

Mexico is really ripping us off to the tune of $236 billion worth of goods exported from the US to Mexico last year. Doesn't include the massive number of cross-border services.

 

I'll have to look at the numbers, but I'll bet that if you took out cars, that trade deficit that is supposedly so awful, comes to just this side of zero.

 

And I'll also bet that if the numbers accurately reflected the joint production on those automobiles, since so many are assembled in Mexico with parts made in America based on research and development conducted here, we'd get an even more interesting picture.

American wealth buys more goods than it sells. I don't think that's a shocker.

 

Now we can talk about this as stemming from the from the low savings rate and chronic overspending, but I'm not prepared to talk about it in terms of deals.

Mexico NEEDS us as an ally. We do not NEED Mexico as an ally. That being said, I agree with most on here that the best deal for all sides is for US and Mexico to play well together.

I agree completely. Allies do not invade one another and Mexico has been conducting an invasion of the U.S. for decades.

Obviously it is beneficial to have a good working relationship with your neighbor. But make no mistake we are the super power and they are not. There is nothing wrong as the super power to come to the table acting as such. Negoiations , good ones should be tough. But in the end Mexico can't afford to lose us so it is time to use that leverage.

 

They aren't going to replace us with Venezuela or any of those countries without freedom. Those countries couldn't make the trade or wealth we provide combined. Venezuela's economy is on verge of complete collapse.

 

So yes I think we should have a good working relationship eith Mexico , but that does not mean we shouldn't renegotiate terms in a tough way.
