Agreed. I understand why Utter didn't want to job when Hicks left, but if he would have been the coach then Grant County may have won the 8th region one of those 2 years following Hicks's departure.

You need to have more information into the program to understand how much he held those 2 teams back. It looks like he did a great job because the won 2 district championships, but he did it with the two best GC teams since the early to mid 2000's.

You need to know the kids he was coaching and he around them and how they felt about Grammers coaching. Managing 10 seniors wasn't a big deal they all played together and basically spent every waking second together since 2nd grade. They were special. The dude held them back from reaching their full potential. Plus if Utter was the coach when Hicks left, their best player from the previous year might of stayed since Utter was a member of Hick's staff so that's even more reason why I think they would have won the region if Utter coached. Grammer wasn't a bad coach, but there is a reason he is only an assistant coach at Holmes now. I'm not trying to degrade Grammer. But Utter has a better understanding of the game, more dedication to the program, and all around a fantastic coach. Look what he is doing with this team. Nobody including myself thought this team was going to be worth a darn. Now they are one game away from being the 1 seed in the 32nd district. This team is no where near as talented or experienced as the district championship teams and they could very well end up in the same place those teams did. That's impressive.

Got to see GC play at Williamstown this year and I'm shocked that SK didn't win this game. Coach Utter and his staff are doing a great job. I think SK people need to follow Aaron Rodgers advice and "relax". The couple games I've seen Simon a lot of their players look disinterested or lazy at times. Can't blame Coach Steiner for that every game. It isn't like he is playing kids to lose. Also, as far as the coach Grammer opinion goes, he did a great job at a school that doesn't have a great tradition of winning. I saw them beat SK twice for district championships his first two years and the opinion on him from the crowd and parents was pretty positive.

Seems like you have your finger on the pulse of the situation. You must know the lazy kids or at least the entitling parents.

Grant lost 51 times the past 3 seasons. The teens on those winning teams must live in a different culture.

If it is any of the above then that is 100% on the coach. I don't believe parents, aau or message boards decide who is playing and how much. If the players don't respond to the coach, there is this thing called a bench they should be sitting on. If their not, then that's the coaches decision.

 

Now if parents are deciding or "influencing" playing time. Still the coaches problem for getting himself in that situation.

So are you saying the kids on this roster are lazy?

I've seen them play about six times this year. The perimeter/guards seem to play with the lack of emotion. Hawkins, Kelch, and sergent play with more intensity.

 

But I don't think that has anything to do with Steiner and I do not know the players outside of the six times I've seen them. I could be wrong, but that is my observation. Which can be said for anyone speaking on this unless they are on SK's staff.

Time for Steiner to go? Isn't Coach Brad Carr available or is he coaching somewhere. Maybe SK needs that kind of intensity. This opinion is not a joke. I like Carr and believe he would be 10 times the coach that SK has now. Would the school board hire him back though?
