Here is the entire interview session with President Obama that is referenced in the Vox piece in the post above. The portion of the President's interview involving the woman in Vox's piece in the OP begins at about 37:20.

I've known the people in that area all of my life. They're mostly all white, pretty uneducated , and have almost always voted against their own self-interests. Plus, there is a lot of bigotry in that area. It has always been quite mind-numbing and terribly frustrating to see these poor folks slit their own throats when they cast their ballots.

Only took 2 posts and we got the "uneducated" and "racist" white folks argument thrown out there. That's gotta be close to a record!

Didn't watch the video, did you? If you had, you would have noted that in the first 20 seconds of the video, the narrator stated that Whitley County is 97% white and 88% of the residents over 25 don't have a college degree. Science Friction said zero about racism, and he was only making a very direct parallel to the education level of the demographic referenced in the OP.

Soooooo...it only took 1 post for a conservative to knee-jerk and put words in the mouth of someone with more of a liberal perspective than their own without actually taking the time to review the content of the discussion thus far. That's gotta be close to a record!

7 minutes.

Not a record, but impressive nevertheless.

I watched the first 1;20 min . All I could stomach. It wasnt " interesting " at all.

This is a really interesting look at things going on among those in Southeast, Kentucky.

Way to try and lump all of SE Ky with what Whitley thinks.

So if you didn't go to college, that throws you into the uneducated pool?

So you've never made a blanket statement about an entire group of people based upon a small cross-section of said group? "Blacks", for example? Ever search how many threads you've started making statements about "blacks"? It's eye-opening.

Nope.

There you go again, bringing up blacks.

For the record, I never said anything about anyone being uneducated. The video simply commented on the percentage of people in Whitley County over the age of 25 who have college degrees.

Science Friction said "pretty uneducated", which some could take as an overstep, but it still isn't saying outright that if someone didn't go to college they are thrown into the uneducated pool. Still, I'll let Science Friction speak for himself.

No college degree does not = uneducated.

Some of you really need to understand this.

I understand full well. I explained that exact thing in the post before yours.

Regardless of their whiteness or their level of education, the fact remains that these people have voted against their own self-interests for decades. The question is.... why? I think many of them simply have no idea that they are compromising their own economic bests interests. And some just just don't care. The fact that they are voting against OBAMA is what matters most. You can't imagine the hate for him down here. Obama hate "trumps" even a pretense of rationality.
