Here are some questions to ask the Nelson County school powers to be.

 

1. Is this the first time Wood has been suspended? And if its not, why was he suspended before.

 

2. What did the bus cameras show? Was there really two separate incidents in this one? Otherwise did Walls choke Wood first? Then Wood after the initial separation Wood then struck Walls 2-4 times with his fist?

 

3. Cameras dont lie and neither will the records if you are smart enough to ask the hard questions.

They were sitting in the stands together like old friends watching the game Friday, I was told.

 

As I said it was two coaches coming off an emotional and embarrassing loss who were discussing how to fix some things. They had differing views and it escalated into a verbal altercation that had physical contact. There were even people on the bus that didn't even know an incident occurred. Just wish it was handled differently, but I still say it shouldn't have ever occurred both individuals recognize that.

I coach and if at any time I were to get in a fist fight with my assistant in front of my team, I would expect nothing less than to be terminated immediately. You can try to make all the justifications you want and blame the district for being too stern, but I don't think there is a district in the state that wouldn't take the same action. And if they didn't, I would question that district immensely!

 

Plain and simple, I don't care who you are or how long coached or what your history is...if this happens, you're gone...period.

You seem to keep attempting to minimize the physical altercation and blame it on a difference of opinion.

 

Did one coach actually "choke" the other coach ?

 

Did one coach land closed fist blows on the other coach ?

 

Seriously, how can you point the finger at the administration and not directly at both of these adults ?

Not out of the loop at all, I stand by my comments the amateurish administration handled this poorly. I also want to make sure I am not saying no one should have been punished quite the contrary it was unacceptable what happened. However a coach stepped up and did the right thing and the administration could have dealt with this in a manner that would have minimized the distractions to all parties.

 

Take this incident away and it is still one of the worst run districts in the area that has continuous turnover at every level.

My only question is, if you have willing competent assistant coaches on the bench, why not let them finish out the year?

Why tag an interim coach from outside the program who the girls have no relationship with??

Sounds to me like the administration isn't concerned about what's best for the kids.

My only question is, if you have willing competent assistant coaches on the bench, why not let them finish out the year?

So that tells me they had a specific reason not to pick an existing coach. Was it the varsity and varsity assistant that were let go? If so, that means the next in line would be the JV. No idea who that is, but are they competent to run the varsity? Do they have the qualifications to be a head coach in that district? And I don't mean "are they a good coach". Some districts have specific qualifications before you're even eligible to be a head coach. (Outside of bball). I have No idea, just asking. Secondly, any ties to the coaches involved? Did the school want someone completely out of the situation to step in to finish the year?

Second, the school puts education and the kids first in every decision they make. Sports are an extra curricular activity. So when they are making the decision on what to do, it's not going to be about how successful the team can be. It's going to be to fix the issues and calm the waters. In this case, I'm sure these highly educated people had their reason for doing what they did. I'm sure it was well thought out and aligned with the district rules, goals, priorities and strategies. Schools are under a microscope and will do what they feel is best for all involved. But they do have priorities and as I'm sure it's fun to win bball games...winning bball games is not their top priority in these situations. Again, remember why the poor kids are in this situation.
