January 3, 20179 yr So most people probably would not agree with me on this. However a trade I would look into if I was the Bengals, would be with the Rams. Especially if they end up getting Sean Payton. Their offense has sucked for awhile, and I am not sure if they are even still sold on Goff even with Sean Payton. I would try to trade Dalton for DT Aaron McDonald straight up. That helps our pass rush needs and gives us the top 2 DTs in the league and also right away improves the Rams offense. Now I would also see if they would throw Goff into the trade to be a backup or take over if Mccarron does falter since they would be getting Dalton, but they probably wouldn't go for that. I don't hate Dalton, but I do think McCarron leadership ability would be better. For the people who are completely behind Dalton you can't ignore he really doesn't get it done against good teams usually or in big games. Sometimes change does help, just like we seen a 4th round pick in Dak do well for Dallas. With Whit being gone in a year or two, I think this offense would need more of a leader than what Dalton is. I see McCarron as a guy who would hold more guys accountable than Dalton and not afraid of the moment. Now it was only a small sample size with McCarron and maybe he wouldn't end up well. However I did like what I saw in his 4 games and he had decent numbers to go with it. Plus I believe Dalton contract is still more than McDonald's so it saves us money. Where they can try to fix the line through free agency, and then use the draft for a pass rushing DE and just best player available types. Who knows the Rams may not even go for that. However that is something I would make a call about if I was the Bengals.
January 3, 20179 yr No one in their right mind would trade arguably the best Dlineman in the league for Dalton. And it's Donald. The other guy has some nickel and dime burger establishment.
January 3, 20179 yr No way. But I'm still firmly attached to the Dalton train. He hasn't showed up in big games, I'll give you that. But neither has literally everyone else on the team. We all think AJ Green is a top 5 receiver in the league, but he has been non-existent in playoff games too. I still think Dalton is not the problem with the Bengals. I also think it would be a huge risk to drop Daltons production and sub in McCarron who does have an upside, but his upside is only slightly higher than Daltons production right now. I would be fine with McCarron as the QB of the Bengals he is a great leader futurecoach said, but I'm also not complaining about Dalton. I think the Dalton offense the last 2 years combined with the defense we had of the Zimmer era is good enough to win multiple playoff games and potentially get to a super bowl.
January 3, 20179 yr You've lost your mind if you think they'd trade Donald for Andy Dalton. Not going to happen.
January 3, 20179 yr There is no way the Bengals trade Dalton for Donald, no way. The Bengals like Dalton, bottom line. I know it is your opinion and that is fine, but I would not trade a starting QB with AD's resume' for ANY d-lineman nor any other position other than QB. QB value way over any other position.

You've lost your mind if you think they'd trade Donald for Andy Dalton. Not going to happen. See I find that very telling about Dalton as a qb for the ones who say the Rams wouldn't trade a DT for a qb. No doubt Donald is a stud DT, but stud DT don't win you games as we have seen with the Rams. This is a qb driven league. You have to have a qb that can make plays in big games to win. Even Seattle who has had the best defense in football the last 4 years. If they didn't have a qb in Wilson who can make big plays at the end of games to win games, they wouldn't be much. You have to have a qb who can make winning football plays. So if Dalton is as good as people say and a guy a team can win with. Then you think a team like the Rams would be willing to get rid of a stud DT for a qb that they can win with and make their offense better. Especially since they have other good DL. Unless Dalton isn't that type of qb that can make an offense better and help your team be a team that can make a run in the playoffs. Then the Bengals are in trouble in that sense too, and really should move on from Dalton. Part of my reasoning in starting this thread was to see if people thought the Rams would do it. For the people who don't think the Rams would, then that is very telling about what they think of Dalton as a qb. Because with this being a qb driven league, you would think a team would trad even a stud DT for a proven qb that they believe could help them win. Even if the Rams wouldn't take that trade, that is a call I would make. Then if they would take the trade, then I do it if I'm the bengals.

In that sense I agree with you because it is a qb driven league. Which is why I think the Rams would possibly take that trade. If they wouldnt take that trade in a qb driven league, then that speaks volumes imo on people's opinion of Dalton and his ability to get a team to go all the way. I know we differ on this, and I do think Dalton is a solid NFL qb. However in the league you do need a qb who can make winning football plays to help the team win even against other good teams. The Bengals are in a tough spot and a rare spot. They have a qb in Dalton who is good enough to win a lot of games, but maybe not good enough to ever get us over the top. McCarron had a small sample size, but in that small sample size he did do what Dalton had failed to do in big games and playoff games, and that is to make plays at the end of a game to try to help the team win. So if I'm the Bengals and I could get a stud DT like Donald for Dalton, then I do it. Plus saves them a little money, and could help fix other places. As I said this probably never happens. The Bengals probably never make that call, and even if they did who knows the Rams may not go for it. That is just what I would at least try to do.

January 4, 20179 yr I guess my next question for you all then would be. If the Rams were to take that trade, do you think the Bengals should? I'd do it in a heart beat if I'm the Bengals. Not so much if I'm the Rams.

January 4, 20179 yr Author What big game has Dalton made a play in to win?? I'd do it in a heart beat if I'm the Bengals. Not so much if I'm the Rams. That is my point. I think that is very telling about Dalton as a qb if a team wouldn't be willing to even give up a stud DT for him in a player for player trade. Dalton hasn't really won any big games and doesn't make plays when they matter most in big games. McCarron at least has made plays in the playoff game that should have won it for them. That is why I would try to trade Dalton and the Rams would be the team I call. You may be right they may laugh and say no. But I would at least try. Imo the Bengals have seen what they can do with Dalton and Lewis. They need to at least try something new. It could work or could backfire.
January 4, 20179 yr Author In a motherscratchin blink. I'd ride with McCarron, and with Donald and Geno, I'd wreck the North. I completely agree. Which I definitely could understand the Rams saying no. Which says a lot about where the Bengals are stuck currently with Dalton. Good enough to win games but not good enough to get over the top. The Bengals are in are bad spot imo, and why I would try to trade Dalton. With the Rams being in LA now and their offense sucking. They could possibly decide to go for it, to at least try to make their offense better and more fun for the new stadium. I would at least make that call if I was the bengals.
