Dalton hasn't really won any big games and doesn't make plays when they matter most in big games. McCarron at least has made plays in the playoff game that should have won it for them. That is why I would try to trade Dalton and the Rams would be the team I call. You may be right they may laugh and say no. But I would at least try. Imo the Bengals have seen what they can do with Dalton and Lewis. They need to at least try something new. It could work or could backfire.

I completely agree. Which I definitely could understand the Rams saying no. Which says a lot about where the Bengals are stuck currently with Dalton. Good enough to win games but not good enough to get over the top. The Bengals are in are bad spot imo, and why I would try to trade Dalton.

 

With the Rams being in LA now and their offense sucking. They could possibly decide to go for it, to at least try to make their offense better and more fun for the new stadium. I would at least make that call if I was the bengals.

They are stuck with him in terms of he does win enough games that you would basically be foolish to get rid of him. While at the same time he probably will never get them over the hump in being a true super bowl contender.

 

He is the true middle of the road qb to where he is good enough to keep, but not good enough to get where you want. Basically he is good enough to where it would scare people like Bengal Maniac and probably management to move on from him, for fear of being wrong on McCarron.

I agree it can be much worst. Shoot I was only 2 when the Bengals made their last super bowl. So I have known the Bengals to be horrible the majority of my life. However I also know sometimes you have to take a risk to change things. I am at that point now where I am willing for them to take that chance on a guy like McCarron.

 

It is scary because there is no guarantee he would do well, because there is only a small sample size with him. I want to see this team be a team that can be a true super bowl contender and I am not sure they can be with Dalton. So I am willing to take that chance.

You let your best defensive back leave in free agency (look at Reggie's numbers again this season). AJ Green's injury goes without saying. Lots of issues that someone short of Rodgers couldn't have overcome.

He did make what should have been the game winning td pass thrown by McCarron. Green also had a chance to make a game winning td catch in the second playoff game against the Texans that would have gave the Bengals a lead with 3 minutes left but Dalton decided to over throw him as he was wide open behind the defense in the end zone.

AD getting hurt last year was the biggest blow this franchise has had in years. He was having an MVP year, they were headed to a #2 seed, maybe 1. They would have stayed away from the Steelers, which they can't beat when they have to.

We will never know if we get the two seed with Dalton or not. Dalton never plays well against the Steelers and usually don't score much. Which the defense that day didn't play well. Monday night on the road against the Denver defense would not exactly been a type of environment that Dalton is known to thrive in. Considering Daltons track record against the Steelers and good teams in prime time. We probably lose to the steelers and Broncos with Dalton just like we did with Mccarron. Let's not forget in his 2 games before his injury he played a horrible game against the Texans on Monday night football that they lost and then the same thing against the Cardinals the next week in prime time that they lost. As great of a year he was having, he still struggled in the same games he always had struggled in. So it's hard to say they win either of those 2 games, which they would have needed to win 1 of them for the 2 seed.

 

I agree it would have been nice to see how he would have finished out. However even in his best season he still struggled against good teams and in prime time with losses his last few starts before the injury.

Dalton has beat the Steelers 3 times in his career and has lost 8 times. His 3 wins were scores of 16 to 10, 13 to 10, and 20 to 10. None of those games did Dalton really play that well. The 16 to 10 win came in 2015. Meaning he only put up 16 points in the win during his best season. The most points Dalton has scored on the Steelers is 21. He has scored 20 twice and the rest in teens or single digits. The second game in 2015 the Steelers scored 31 points. So there is no reason to believe we win with Dalton considering he never scored more than 21 against them. Especially when McCarron put up 20 that day off the bench. In those 3 losses after Dalton got hurt, there was no real reason to say man I wish we had Dalton this day because of a bad performance by McCarron. McCarron scored 20 and 16 against the Steelers, which was very similar to Daltons career numbers against them. Then the Denver game absolutely zero reason to believe Dalton on Monday night football against that defense does much better than what McCarron did against them scoring 17 in an OT lost.

 

We have 6 years of data on Dalton. In 4 games with McCarron we have seen similar numbers and results as Dalton. Except McCarron did it with less experience and honestly in bigger moments. You would think he gets better with more experience. Which is why I would take that risk with him.
