It is quite simple. Teams that rarely or occasionally get to a bowl game really want to be there and win the bowl game. Kentucky, for example, really wants to play in a bowl game this year and will be in it to win it since they have not been in awhile and do not know when they will be back. When UK went to the Music City bowl or whatever a few years in a row the players and fan base was not as excited to be there by the end.

 

For all those teams who barely missed out on the playoff they are just not that excited to be there and sometimes they really mail it in. Two 7-5 teams who don't make bowls very often can be more entertaining than two 9-3 teams that make a bowl every year and are lamenting missing out on the playoff.

So the triple option type offenses are fun to watch to you? Ehh. To me watching them play is like watching UVA play basketball; no thanks.

Air Force QB is 7/10 for over 200 yards right now. They've rushed for 225 so far.

Mac Brown was actually talking about this today...said Texas lost last game of the season to Oklahoma one year and lost conference title and chance at national title. He said all anyone talked about was the last game that they lost and no one had their head in it for the upcoming bowl game. He said, the mind set of who wants to be there versus who doesn't is a big part of all bowl games these days...but of course what does he know :lol2:

But in all seriousness, just experiencing what OSU went through last season after suffering the heartbreaking loss to MSU and effectively ending the playoff hopes, they go and wax Michigan and Notre Dame. At the end of the day it's football. I find it hard to believe once the players step on the field that they don't try to play hard.

It varies team to team...to OSUs credit they got up for a game, but it was after all Notre Dame. Ohio State has for the most part played in bigger games against well known and respected teams the last decade or so...and has gotten up for them.

 

Here is an Example, Florida State for the last two decades has played for a national title year in and year out, how excited do you think they were to play UK in the Music City Bowl several years ago? FSU was having a down year by their standards and they players had no fire in that game...as for UK it was Super Bowl level for them :lol2: even if the Noles weren't on par with previous teams.

I think once they step on the field the players are giving it their all. The difference is in the preparation. Are players who are playing in a lesser bowl game than they want going to spend extra time studying film, doing extra reps in the weight room, etc. during the dead period before the game??

 

Also, are all the coaches going to go at it just as hard in the film room preparing game plans? Some are and some probably are not.

I think once they get there they do go all out, but it's the preparation that is lacking when not playing a marquee team in some cases.
