My Microwave Oven Is 30 Years Old!

Featured Replies

I moved into my first apartment in the autumn of 1986 at the age of 22. For Christmas that year my partner at the time bought me a brand new Sanyo Microwave Oven for $99.

This Christmas marks the 30th Anniversary of me owning my very first microwave oven, and the amazing thing is it still works, and I have used it non stop ever since.

About 15 years ago a different partner of mine, when thinking of something to get me for Christmas, overhead me saying that I thought that the microwave ovens with the turnstyles were a great idea. I never really meant for him to take it as a hint to get me an oven. I told him that I would keep it in storage and if the one that I was using ever bit the dust I would use the one that he gave me. To this day I still have never opened the box because I'm still using my 30 year old microwave oven.

I think that it's unbelievable that my microwave oven has lasted me 30 years and counting.

What's the longest you've ever had a microwave oven last?

My father bought my mom a microwave in the late 70's/early 80's. No rotating turnstyle and the timer was an analog dial. She still has it and it still works.

Mine also has an analog dial. Pretty basic model with nothing about it to start acting faulty. A good example of "less is more".

Mine will be 30 years old in March.

What brand is it?

I've hardly ever use a microwave. I'll bet you since this new fangled machine was invented and sold, you could count on both hands the number of times I have used one. Just not a fan. (And yes SF, I know how to use one....just don't like them)

Don't you ever eat leftovers?

Do you have refrigerators, color TVs?

Sure, I just use regular oven or pot on stove/range.

Do you have refrigerators, color TVs?

Hardee har har! Sure I do, my refrigerator has its motor on top, my TV has legs and color when I attach the filter to the front and I have to hand crank my car to start it.

And I also have...............

Good thing I read further. I was getting ready to explain what a stove and pot/pan and oven were. My explanation was exponentially more snark than yours. :lol2:

I rarely use mine either. And weirdly, yesterday moring on the way to work, my rideshares and I discussed microwave usage. :lol2:

Thank you RM! I just am not too keen with the way the food is nuked in a microwave.

I've never had a microwave oven break down on me. Have upgraded the appliances or would probably still have the original.

Dishwashers, washing machines and dryers are a different story.

I like your response. But do you know the song I was referring to?
