Wonder why nobody tried to get them to do it cheaper before?

Boeing CEO vows to build new Air Force One for less after Trump complaints | Fox News

From the article:

The CEO of Boeing told President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday that his company can build a new Air Force One for less than originally quoted -- after Trump complained about the cost.

Earlier this month, Trump made headlines for blasting the company on Twitter for alleged cost overruns with the new fleet of Air Force One planes.

Trump called on the government to cancel the contract and called the supposed $4 billion price tag out of control.

Boeing’s Dennis Muilenburg, who met with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., addressed the media after the meeting and said, “We’re going to get it done for less than that, and we’re committed to working together to make sure that happens.”

Anthony Scaramucci, a Trump adviser the founder of SkyBridge Capital, tweeted about the price reduction and called it a “big win for taxpayers.”

Trump also met Wednesday with Lockheed Martin Corp.’s Marillyn Hewson after he criticized the cost of its F-35.

"Trying to get the costs down, costs. Primarily the F-35...we're trying to get the cost down. It's a program that's very, very expensive,'' Trump told reporters.

The difference between a businessman and a community organizer. One negotiates a better deal when necessary, while the other organizes a meaningless protest march. Experience matters!

I'm not sure I want my airplane builder trying to do it cheaper.

Yep. And interestingly enough, Trump will never fly on the new one, as it's not scheduled for delivery until 2024. Condidering the new plane will likely be in service for 30+ years, shaving a couple million or so off the cost isn't that big of a deal.

2 million is no big deal. Thats why are at 20 Trillion. Oh wait, no big deal. This folks is a true liberal speaking. The DNC needs to put you on their board of directors.

"As I hurtled through space, one thought kept crossing my mind - every part of this rocket was supplied by the lowest bidder.”

:lol2:

No doubt they can shave costs, but I hope Trump cuts deals on things he will actually lose.

Poor Kanye will be crashing on AF1 in 2025.

In all seriousness, I do find it refreshing that we FINALLY have someone in Washington that actually cares about costs. I don't think either party seemed to even question costs in previous years. Business people question costs ALL THE TIME. Now that the word is out that Trump and his team will actually look at the bills they get before paying them, companies will be less likely to try to gouge the US. I don't really care that much about the Boeing deal and my guess is that Trump is sending a message to every company dealing with the government, not just Boeing.

First we don't know how much we'll save. Second, I kind of want my president flying in a top of the line fully equipped aircraft that keeps him safe and allows him to do his job while traveling. This aircraft will likely be in service for 20-30 years. So yes, as I said, saving a few million up front on a plane in service for that long of a period isn't a huge deal.

No one in Washington cares or complains about cost? I have been hearing stories about this type of stuff my entire life. Whoever follows Trump, we will hear the same stories again.

I am impressed how quickly the Boeing CEO caught on. say it and it is done. How Trump like.

Now, before you all run around with your own interpretations of my comments above, let me tell you exactly what I am saying.

There have been cost overruns in government purchases forever and they will not go away because of Trump. I am amazed at how everyone continues to lap up everything Trump says when he already is backing down from what he said in the campaign on various issues. Or, Donald makes these statements and is hailed as some revolutionary change artist when things like this have been done in the past by others.

Show me Donald, show me - because I'm not buying your rhetoric. I am looking forward to Donald being in office, seeing how much he can actually get done and what he does. When he actually does something I will applaud or criticize. His words carry little meaning at this point. Donald has already taught me that.

Words are cheap. Trumpeteers bought the cheap words by the bushel. Some of those cheap words in the campaign are already worthless (Trump is not doing what he said). I am reserving judgment on Trump for what he does, not what he says because so far what he says is not being put into deeds.

Exactly. So let's stop singing his praises before he actually does something. Right now it's all talk.

No, I will sing his praises because all he can do right now is set the tone for his administration and I think he is doing a great job at this right now. I don't agree with everything he is doing but that is OK. He was elected to shake things up in a totally broken Washington and I think he is priming things to do just that. Time will tell though...I don't expect you to agree and that is ok.
