Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Now's a good time to read The Right Stuff if you haven't before. Pretty crazy what those guys were doing. I absolutely love that book. The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test is pretty great too, if you enjoy Tom Wolfe.
True blue (and gold) Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I cried when Neil Armstrong died. I've had to fight the tears back since hearing about this. A military veteran, an American hero and a fine man. Many heart is heavy.
The Professor Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I remember the original astronauts because as a first grader in 1960-61 the teacher had ordered a small newspaper for kids called the Weekly Reader and most of the issues had stories and pics about the astronauts and the early missions into space. Everything was new to the world as far as space travel was concerned and the teacher made sure we knew that these guys were very brave and intelligent. She also made us aware that we were in a race with the Soviets for space supermacy. Exciting times for sure.
Clyde Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Nice article about the love John and Annie Glenn had as well as the challenge she faced with stuttering. Annie Glenn: ‘When I called John, he cried. People just couldn’t believe that I could really talk.’ - The Washington Post
