November 28, 20169 yr SUNDAY EDITION | City, state seek to avert KFC Yum! Center debt - WDRB 41 Louisville News
November 28, 20169 yr Author With UL having the most profitable athletic program in the country, how is this possible? If my memory is correct, this was supposed to be a $300 million dollar facility.
November 29, 20169 yr Sad but then again I don't care. I hope they make UL play at WKU and reschedule their dates and times.
November 29, 20169 yr Author Sad but then again I don't care. I hope they make UL play at WKU and reschedule their dates and times. The thing is, if it goes bankrupt, UL will likely buy the arena for half of what is owed. Us taxpayers will take care of the debt.
November 29, 20169 yr With UL having the most profitable athletic program in the country, how is this possible? If my memory is correct, this was supposed to be a $300 million dollar facility. They are the most profitable at the expense of the Yum Center. There were several people with conflicts of interest who set up the sweetheart deal for UL if I remember correctly.

There were several people with conflicts of interest who set up the sweetheart deal for UL if I remember correctly. That and we had and idiot for a mayor whose incompetence allowed the city to get screwed over like I have never seen. He apparently didn't learn much about a decade ago when he allowed Louisville to get fleeced by a Baltimore company who he basically gave away city land and buildings for an entertainment district that many locally owned companies wanted to build even with no city land or buildings thrown in. Thanks Jerry! Moron. Can't wait for Trump to fire you from the cushy job Obama gave you.
November 29, 20169 yr I'll just sit over here and keep saying what I've been saying for years and years about what happens when cities and states build lavish new arenas and stadiums for teams and don't assert themselves on behalf of the taxpayer. This wasn't an NBA team. It wasn't like they were going to up and leave. No one had to give UofL this deal and they did it anyway. Whatever.
November 29, 20169 yr No way I renegotiate if I'm UL. No way I agree to the deal originally if I'm the City.
November 29, 20169 yr No way I renegotiate if I'm UL. No way I agree to the deal originally if I'm the City. Agree to both. UofL could build an arena on its own if they wanted to, and then the Yum Center would sit empty for 85% of the year. They really don't want or need that problem.
December 6, 20169 yr Jurich is fired up over this... Not good for the city and the Yum Center... Jurich: City wants U of L out of Yum Center
December 6, 20169 yr Jurich has a job to do and he's doing it. He's wrong and used relationships with certain authority members that had ties to UofL that they had no business getting. I want UofL downtown and I want them in the Yum, but something has to be done about payments and scheduling.
December 6, 20169 yr Author So am I taking Jurich's comments right in that basically if UL has to help get the arena out of debt that they are going to take their ball and go home? I just scanned through the article so I may be completely off base. But basically it sounded like if they actually have to pay a more reasonable amount of money to use the arena (to help keep it from going into bankruptcy) they they are just going to build an on campus arena and let the taxpayers handle the burden, that UL created in the first place by pushing the state to build them a new arena. Which makes one wonder, why didn't they just build one themselves in the first place?

Which makes one wonder, why didn't they just build one themselves in the first place? The story has always been the UofL wanted to be on-campus from the beginning, but certain groups within the city and within city government threw everything they could to UofL to get them to agree to the downtown arena. Eventually the deal got sweeter and sweeter and UofL couldn't help but take the deal. But of course UofL was also pushing for those things. Lots of irritating things happening here.
December 6, 20169 yr Could Mayor Fischer turn the tables and say if UofL leaves the Yum Center, he will begin an aggressive campaign to bring an NBA team to Louisville as the Yum Center's primary tennant? An NBA team in Louisville is not in UofLs interest since the NBA would attract corporate sponsorship that UofL pretty much has a monopoly on.
