If Clemson or Washington lose, what happens?

Featured Replies

If Clemson or Washington lose what happens? I think it would be obvious that you put in whoever won in Indianapolis this weekend. But let's say they put Michigan in at 5 this week, which I expect to happen, would it shock anyone if Michigan stayed ahead of the Big 10 Champ in the final rankings? Kirk Herbstreit mentioned this on Mike and Mike this morning.

There are realistically only a handful of teams with a shot....

Alabama

Clemson

Ohio State

Washington

Wisconsin

Penn State

Michigan

Colorado

Oklahoma

Oklahoma State

In your scenario:

Alabama wins, that's one.

Clemson loses, they're out.

Washington loses, they're out.

Ohio State is in in this scenario. That's two.

That leaves two spots for the other 6 teams (Penn State/Wisconsin/Michigan/Oklahoma/Oklahoma State/Colorado).

Washington losing means Colorado wins, which I believe puts them in.

The other spot would go to Wisconsin/Penn State or Oklahoma (assuming they beat OK State).

I'd imagine the playoff would end up being:

Alabama vs. Colorado

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin/Penn State winner

I see zero chance for Michigan to be there, nor should they be IMO.

Sorry, my post was assuming both lost.

If only one loses, it simply guarantees Ohio State is in.

Bama & OSU are in.

Clemson & Washington win - they are in

Clemson or Washington loses - B1G Champ is in

Clemson & Washington lose & Oklahoma wins - B1G Champ & Oklahoma are in

Clemson, Washington, & Oklahoma lose - B1G Champ & Colorado are in.

That's the way I see it probably happening. Things will be interesting to say in the least if Clemson, Washington, and Penn State all win over the weekend. The committee is highly hoping that one of them at minimum lose.

It's possible, but I would be surprised if that happens with Michigan. I know their game was close with Ohio State, but the other loss to Iowa will be too much to overcome combined with it.

It's gonna be crazy if one of these schools lose, do they fall out and which 2 Loss school takes their spot? Or are they considered a better 2 loss team than the rest after losing your conference championship.

If Washington loses, MI would have head to head argument against conf champ argument for all 3 teams (CO, PSU & WI). OT loss at tOSU is quality, but at IA hurts. Can't imagine them putting 2 B1G teams in, neither of which played in the championship game, but I really like the head to head criteria.

If Washington and Clemson lose it will be 3 Big 10 teams and Alabama. If Washington loses then the argument for Michigan to get in is pretty clear, they beat the Pac 12 Champ and the Big 10 champ. Michigan is going to get in if Washington or Clemson loses.

Meaning this shows they probably would have definitely got in then if they only had 1 lost but didn't win the Big 10 championship as we talked about weeks ago :D

Btw I think there is no chance they put three big 10 teams in even if Washington and Clemson lose. Colorado would make it before they put 3 big 10 teams in. However two big 10 teams making it is a definite if either Washington or Clemson lose. It would be interesting which two big 10 teams. Would be cool to see both Michigan and OSU make it even though neither made the conference championship game. Now that would make some good controversy lol

As a fan though I would rather Michigan make it rather than Wisconsin or Penn st. Adding Michigan and Harbaugh into the mix with Meyer, Saban, and Clemsons Coach would make it very fun lol.

There were a lot more teams with a realistic shot at getting in at that point. Though. You're probably right and they would have gotten in, but it still wasn't definite. I know it's radical, but if they both lose I see no way the Big 10 doesn't get 3 teams in. You can't put Colorado in over the Big 10 Champ, you can't put them in over Michigan. I think Oklahoma is out of the equation to. All we have heard is it's about the 4 best teams from the committee. If UW and Clemson lose the 4 best teams are Bama, Ohio State, Michigan, and Big 10 Champ.

See i don't feel like the big 10 champ would be one of the four best. Penn st got destroyed by Michigan and barely beat OSU. Other than that they didn't have to really beat anyone to get to the Big 10 championship. Wisconsin lost to both Michigan and OSU and didn't even play Penn St. Both teams were very fortunate with how the schedule worked out and how the divisions are set for why they both get to play for the Big 10 championship. Penn State is only ranked this high because of one play. They lose that OSU game and they are probably in the 20 to 25 range. Wisconsin did beat LSU, but besides that they lost to OSU and Michigan. There is absolutely zero that either team has done that shows they would be definitely one of the best 4 teams in the country.

I see zero chance that they would put three teams in. Clemson with 2 losses would still have a better resume than a 2 loss Big ten champ will.

I don't think Clemson, Colorado (if they win), Oklahoma, or anybody else has shown me anything either. It's a tough call. I'll leave it at that.

Not sure I agree. Wisconsin had to play the 2 best teams from the other side. Their schedule could not have been any harder.
