November 30, 20169 yr An interesting discussion I caught briefly on ESPN Radio yesterday. Remember, the committee is not NCAA affiliated, it is a meeting of the minds from the 5 conferences. Big businesses. From a pure business sense, would the committee be comfortable saying "NO" to teams from 3 of the 5 conferences (i.e. scenario of 3 B1G teams making it). Not seeing it.
November 30, 20169 yr See i don't feel like the big 10 champ would be one of the four best. Penn st got destroyed by Michigan and barely beat OSU. Other than that they didn't have to really beat anyone to get to the Big 10 championship. Wisconsin lost to both Michigan and OSU and didn't even play Penn St. Both teams were very fortunate with how the schedule worked out and how the divisions are set for why they both get to play for the Big 10 championship. Penn State is only ranked this high because of one play. They lose that OSU game and they are probably in the 20 to 25 range. Wisconsin did beat LSU, but besides that they lost to OSU and Michigan. There is absolutely zero that either team has done that shows they would be definitely one of the best 4 teams in the country. I see zero chance that they would put three teams in. Clemson with 2 losses would still have a better resume than a 2 loss Big ten champ will. I'm going to irk a lot of people, but everyone is placing too much emphasis on the "eye test". The game is played on the field!! It doesn't really matter if PSU only made "one play"....they did enough to win the game. One could make the argument Michigan outplayed OSU (passed the "eye test") on Saturday, but OSU won the game. I believe Penn St, if they win on Saturday, should be in.

November 30, 20169 yr I'd wager a very large sum of money that if both Clemson and Washington lose, the Big Ten will get two teams in.
November 30, 20169 yr Author I'd wager a very large sum of money that if both Clemson and Washington lose, the Big Ten will get two teams in.Id wager a large sum of money that if just one of them loses the Big 10 gets 2 teams in.
November 30, 20169 yr Id wager a large sum of money that if just one of them loses the Big 10 gets 2 teams in. They might. My point is there's virtually no chance the Big Ten gets 3 teams in.
November 30, 20169 yr Author They might. My point is there's virtually no chance the Big Ten gets 3 teams in.So if Washington or Clemson, do you think Michigan gets in? I think they do.
November 30, 20169 yr So if Washington or Clemson, do you think Michigan gets in? I think they do. No Michigan is done.
November 30, 20169 yr Author I understand that it would look bad from a business perspective to put 3 B1G teams in, but from a football perspective, if Clemson loses with as bad as they have looked at time, and Washington loses with their awful SOS, I don't see how you couldn't say the 4 best teams are Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and the B1G champ.
November 30, 20169 yr Author No Michigan is done. Surprising. The more I think about it the more I think the committee is going to put them in if 1 team loses. The first two years it seemed like being a conference champ was the most important thing, but honestly have we had any other reasonable choice other that wasn't a conference champ? I don't think we've seen a case like Michigan where they finished 3rd in the East, but beat both of the teams in the B1G championship game. The scenarios we are seeing with Ohio State and imo Michigan still is unprecedented. I think the committee will still like Michigan more than the B1G Champ even after this week.
November 30, 20169 yr Is Iowa better than Michigan? On November 12th, their only opportunity to prove so, they were.
November 30, 20169 yr Author On November 12th, their only opportunity to prove so, they were. At least you stuck to your guns with your response. Good for you.
November 30, 20169 yr Michigan is one of the four best teams IMO, but I think they played their way out of contention with the loss last week.
November 30, 20169 yr Not sure I agree. Wisconsin had to play the 2 best teams from the other side. Their schedule could not have been any harder. Which they lost to both. So them being in the opposite division is the only reason they are in it.
November 30, 20169 yr They might. My point is there's virtually no chance the Big Ten gets 3 teams in. Agreed.
