November 27, 20169 yr This is something I wanted to post on here since the election ended. Many of you on this board have been very critical of him. But I think its time he gets the credit he deserves. He has been a major leader in not only flipping the state of KY almost entirley red but also his move to block the last Supreme court pick now seems genius. He was mocked by those on the left because they didn't see a Trump victory coming. But now because of this move we will have a non liberal nominated. So since Mitch has taken over leadership for the GOP in the Senate we have seen House , Senate , and the President flip red. You may not like Mitch or his politics but he may be the best at playing the political game in D.C.
November 27, 20169 yr Would the tactic still be regarded as "genius" if Chuck Schumer has the opportunity to employ it in 2019/2020?
November 27, 20169 yr Would the tactic still be regarded as "genius" if Chuck Schumer has the opportunity to employ it in 2019/2020? No, short memories will prevail and he'll be just another partisan hack.
November 27, 20169 yr Author Would the tactic still be regarded as "genius" if Chuck Schumer has the opportunity to employ it in 2019/2020? Like I said I don't have to agree with the policies to appreciate good leadership. I also feel comfortable as of today and it might change , but the GOP will pick up seats in the next Senate races. If Trump does well they ride his coat tails and if he doesn't enough of them kept their distance or openly were against him they can legitmatly distance themselves. If we look at who we are comparing Mitch to on leadership side for Democrats recently Pelosi and Reid , I mean he's playing chess while their playing checkers. It's why the leadership votes will be interesting for Democrats. Schumer is better than Reid at the political game. I don't agree with him but he has many more working relationships across the aisle.
November 27, 20169 yr Author No, short memories will prevail and he'll be just another partisan hack. You can be both. It's not hard to understand.
November 27, 20169 yr Author Isn't Trump going to drain the swamp? Wouldn't Mitch be part of the swamp? Unless the constitution has changed he has no say on the Senate. But I get the jab toward Trump. But I'd say his rule for when people leave a position on his team is a huge step in that direction.
November 28, 20169 yr Sen McConnell is the face of today's DC. It's not about making the country better. It's about a party winning. So I'd say he deserves credit for being where we are but not for doing good work for the country.
November 28, 20169 yr Author Sen McConnell is the face of today's DC. It's not about making the country better. It's about a party winning. So I'd say he deserves credit for being where we are but not for doing good work for the country. He is a politician and he is the best at doing politics. If he thinks his GOP agenda will be best for America then it's his job as a leader of the party to put his party in the best position to move forward with said plans. There is no arguing with his success in that regard. Now moving forward we have to see what he and other leaders do with the power. I just appreciate savy political moves and Mitch is like a 9th degree black belt in politics.

He can rationalize it any which way he wants. He's the face of the problem in DC.
November 28, 20169 yr Mitch has been in office for as long (literally) as I can remember and I don't honestly know of anything he's accomplished. Where can I see a list of his accomplishments?

He's the face of the problem in DC. I would say the man in Oval office didn't help with any negoiations with his rhetoric. Both have blame there. But it doesn't change my original point. When Reagan came into office Tip O'Neil was dead set on stopping Reagan policy but they were able to have a working relationship and got things done.
November 28, 20169 yr Author Mitch has been in office for as long (literally) as I can remember and I don't honestly know of anything he's accomplished. Where can I see a list of his accomplishments? Mitch McConnell - Wikipedia I'd argue one of his biggest accomplishments finished with this election. Flipping KY almost completely red. Also was the reason for Citizens United ruling and eliminating McCain-Feingold. I know liberals hate that but that is big reason I like him.
November 28, 20169 yr My question is what specifically has McConnell done that deserves accolades? What did he do that led to KY finally becoming Republican? He has been in office since 1985. He has been in leadership positions in the Senate since 2007. In 2016 KY goes Republican and he gets credit for that? I see that more a cycle of politics and not necessarily because of something specific he did. The Supreme Court move has worked out so give him credit for that one. McConnell avoided campaigning for Trump in the election, criticized Trump and called for him to apologize for remarks he made.
November 28, 20169 yr I am ready for McConnell to go away. He is part of the reason people voted for Trump. They do not like career politicians.
