I'm not opposed to the computer rankings, but feel like if you combined them with more of a human element it would make things better. It would be simple to do and I believe it has been done in the past.

We had that, it was called the BCS. :lol2: Everyone seemed to hate it. With most saying there needed to be a human element because computers could not tell how dominant a team really was or wasn't.

What I was saying is that using a computer formula is fine, just include the human element as well. Let the computer do it's think, use a weighted formula from the AP and Coaches polls to formulate the end result. I believe it was done similar to that with the old BCS system, but IMO it would work much better with a playoff. Particularly if and when it expands to 8 teams.

Yeah, but I don't believe the polls are included in the overall computer formula are they? I thought they just had a computer formula that they use then the committee uses their judgement and the polls as a reference to come up with the end result? I may be wrong about that and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if I am. But I would just soon the committee stay out of it and let a computer run it's own metrics with a weighted formula from the coaches and AP polls. That way you have the human element, but not necessarily one that could be influenced as easily as say a committee member could.

If you ask me, the first thing they do when they get in the committee room and pick 4 teams. Then they spend the rest of the time trying to find a metric that supports their picks. Their favored metric seems to shift every week. One week its SOS, next it is SOR, then it is wins against FBS teams over .500, then non-conference schedule. They just make it up as they go along.
