December 7, 20169 yr Nice straw man argument.. Nobody said that or president or his family do not deserve protection. My point is that they have a duty not to make that protection unreasonably difficult and expensive with a "money is no object" attitude with their lavish lifestyles. Numerous separate vacations by the president and the Royal,,,I mean First Family, in difficult to secure locations are irresponsible, IMO. Motorcades and security in crowded venues do not come cheap. Setting a good example by being good stewards off the taxpayers's money seems to have fallen out of style, but it is still the right thing to do. Give some examples please of waste as you see it by this or any other recent President when it comes to travel?
December 7, 20169 yr Give some examples please of waste as you see it by this or any other recent President when it comes to travel?Every separate vacation that Barack Obama and his FIrst Lady took at taxpayer expense. What was the cost/benefit of Michelle Obama's vacation to Africa with her children and members of her extended family? If there is no legitimate, tangible value of a trip to average American citizens, then the First Family should make an effort to combine business with pleasure at the same destination and/or limit travel to areas that security can be provided in a cost effective manner. Traveling to relatively dangerous locations inhabited by large numbers of Islamic terrorists may be necessary for the President from time to time, but such junkets should be avoided unless they are necessary. My example involves the Obama family's vacation practices, but I am sure that there are plenty of other examples of the First Family "living high on the hog" at our considerable expense during other administrations. Not only that, members of Congress have long abused their power by taking numerous junkets for "fact finding" missions that often coincide with exotic, popular vacation destinations for Americans who can afford such vacations. In general, I am very troubled by the emergence of a ruling class in this country that acts and spends more like royalty than responsible, fiscally responsible elected representatives of those of us who elected them.
December 7, 20169 yr Entirely different situation than what my post is about. FYI for anyone else, sorry was not aware you knew the Oval Office was being gutted.
December 7, 20169 yr FYI for anyone else, sorry was not aware you knew the Oval Office was being gutted. Yes. I knew that. It has nothing to do with Mrs. Trump and Baron staying in New York instead of the White House and how much it will cost the taxpayers of New York state. And I am not mad at them for staying so he can finish school(even though every other POTUS moved their family) but it will still cost the taxpayers of New York 180M to protect them for the 6 months they are there and they most definitely should be protected at all times when away from the White House.

Why New York to foot the bill, looks like the Feds would pickup up something? I know the Secret Service is occupying a floor of Trump Tower, surely that is paid by the Feds. Does New York have that much to pay to control the extra traffic? I know there is also traffic congestion whenever he is on the move coming in or out of town.

I'm just commenting on what has been reported. They never said why New York taxpayers would pay. They just said they foot the bill.

They never said New York taxpayers would pay. Then they finish up by saying "they foot the bill." Journalism at it's finest lol. I'm late to the party on this one, but I would be curious which news outlet you got your information from. It seems like they were creating their own news to me.

This is from back in December and I don't care anymore.
February 2, 20179 yr Has there ever been a family that didn't move into the WH? Seems she plans to move to DC now. Melania Trump to move to DC at end of school year: aide | TheHill
February 2, 20179 yr I thought the plan from the start was that they'd stay in NYC until the school year was out....Why is this news?
February 2, 20179 yr I thought the plan from the start was that they'd stay in NYC until the school year was out....Why is this news? A report that came out earlier this week said she didn't intend to ever live in DC. But spokespeople for Mrs. Trump are saying this isn't true. Honestly, I think if nothing else she'll receive enough pressure to move to DC. I kind of think she might have intended to stay in NYC but that's obviously just speculation on my part.
