February 2, 20179 yr A report that came out earlier this week said she didn't intend to ever live in DC. But spokespeople for Mrs. Trump are saying this isn't true. Honestly, I think if nothing else she'll receive enough pressure to move to DC. I kind of think she might have intended to stay in NYC but that's obviously just speculation on my part. Maybe so. I know it was originally reported that they were planning on coming after the school year ended, but who knows. Is it a big deal, or does it matter if she did decide to stay in NYC?

The only real issue to me personally is having to keep the extra security 24/7 in NYC. But, as I said, there is so much more to be upset with Trump about right now it's super low. I can see where, for optics it's not a good look. It's probably a valid point. Just not one I'm concerned about.

As for security, the First Lady and children of the POTUS have 24/7 security as it is, so is there really a difference there?

From what I gather, people have an issue with her living in NYC because of that added security expense. Not like they are taking security away from the WH to cover her in NYC. Coverages stays the same at the WH, so added security in NYC equals added cost. I have a friend or two that complained about this a few weeks ago. People reaching for anything they can.

I guess if the President and the rest of the first family were always side by side, it would have more validity. But with any President's schedule, the President is so often separated from the family there is always a scenario and need for the additional detail. I can't get that worked up over it.

I can't get worked over it either. But you're right, so now the secret service is covering the WH, the President on his trip, and his family in NYC. Whereas other Presidents they are only covering the trip and WH. At least I assume, I don't know how it works. It doesn't matter to me, but I do see how it could add much more expense for security services if they live in NYC than if the two lived in the White House.

But in your scenario you are assuming all of the first family is remaining at the White House while the POTUS is on a trip. The FLOTUS is always out doing engagements, kids at school, vacationing on their own, etc. All of which require additional security (I honestly don't think Melania is going to be that active). Sure, it is more money, but in the grand scheme probably not much.
February 2, 20179 yr This is such a non-issue. We are on the hook to protect her and her son where ever they go. They didn't run for office and shouldn't have to disrupt their lives just because people have an opinion on where they should be living.

May 16, 20179 yr Author The Trumps have selected a school in Potomac, MD for Baron. It's an Episcopal preparatory school about 20 miles from DC.
