He wasn't getting the recruits to come there so obviously they don't have that great of a relationship with Charlie, or his assistants aren't doing their job to make sure guys want to come to Texas. Strong may be a players coach, but in the end I'm not sure they have confidence that he can win games and that plays into the relationships too.

Yep, this looks totally classless on the part of Texas. But, I think they are going to make sure that Herman is coming before they do anything.

Couldn't agree more. Anyone that Texas eventually offers the job to should take a hard look at how they handled this situation. IMO, the boosters have become the downfall of the Texas program, they seem to control the entire football operations even down to how things are handled internally. That's going to be a big turn off for most proven coaches that are offered that job.

I still can't figure out why Texas is a popular job? I get the whole money and it's "Texas" ordeal but other than that, what makes that job higher prized than say LSU?

Texas can probably be the best job in the country and the worst job in the country. It has to be hard that these boosters haven't let him do his job, and it's been like this since his first season. Hard to get a recruit to take your program seriously when they wanted to fire him after one year.

If this were a non-traditional power with a bare cupboard when he took the helm, then ok. He is also a victim of other coaches that come into these bigger jobs and have immediate success. That is the standard in today's game. Not to drop contests to Kansas.
