I'm a little surprised this wasn't brought up yet.

I wish he had just said, "Dak is the man, and now I'm the best backup QB in the league," and walked off the stage, but this is a solid consolation.

Could a mod embed please?

He will be a Bronco next year. He will want to go where he has a chance for a Super Bowl as the starter.

Why is everyone, and I'm including Jerry Jones, so enamored with Romo? He puts up solid numbers and it's not all his fault. He's 2-4 in the post season and around .600 winning% (not bad) in the regular season. Jerry Jones and other talking heads act like he's the next Tom Brady. Any other higher echelon team and he's gone years ago.

What controversy?

Fine words, and he seemed incredibly sincere. I just don't understand the point of it all? You'd thought it was a retirement speech from an all time great.

My guess is the team asked him to do it.

Sure they (Jerry) did. But that should be a head coach's job.

Coach speak wouldn't squelch it. This did. Right call.

The one Sportscenter wanted us to believe existed.

Well...It's actually the old controversy about whether you can/should lose your job due to an injury. Dak has done a wonderful job, but we also don't know what the Cowboys would have done with Romo as QB. Without Elliott would the Cowboys have been as successful with Dak?

I can see Romo playing backup this year, but either he wins the job back next year or he goes and plays somewhere else. I think he still wants that Superbowl!

Even after the statement?

No way. Now the story is the 7-3 Broncos need to replace their QB with Romo.

Does he still need to do that if Dallas wins this year?

I would think you'd want to as a starter. I'd want to win the thing every year. Most of the QB deficient teams need more than a QB, although it would help them.

I can't fathom a 36-year old QB hoping a new team can put the pieces around him to win. I understand the ego aspect of it, but serving as a mentor to a young QB would probably do more for his legacy than being the guy who wanted to win one himself.

He could add a couple years to his career and career earnings, and maybe have the occasional Falco-esque game if Dak goes down. My inner novelist wants to see it play out that way.
