I saw this on ESPN, and I know Phil was telling a story about Lebron wanting to stay in Cleveland for a night or whatever, But I didn't catch the part of why he brought it up. Does anybody know why? Just wondering

Maverick Carter was just on The Herd and said that he didn't take it as racist. He did take it as an insult. Cowherd agreed on both basically saying guys like Phil, Riley, etc were the establishment guys. Then you have LeBron's associates with Carter and his other guys who now have built a brand and play where they want to play, make deals on their own, they don't need the "establishment" to make deals and be successful.

 

Kinda how ol' pap sees it.

Because Phil is petty and likes to take subtle jabs at people.

I think this is a great analogy.

And Carmelo seemed to make this issue about race just as much as Maverick Carter did. Maverick Carter had a great point though. For all he has accomplished from scratch he and his business associates are still referred to as a posse. Would Phil Jackson say the same thing about David Falk and his associates?

He was definitely taking a shot at Lebron and his people. Racist? No. Racial undertones? I say yes.

 

I agree that it was a shot at Lebron's people/advisers who have basically made a (very successful) career out of being childhood friends with LBJ. From what little I've read, Maverick Carter has actually done a good job on LBJ's behalf.
