Serious question....Is "posse" a racist term? I've never heard it referred to as such. :idunno:

Never thought of posse being specific of a race. I've said it to black and white people.

 

Another reason to dislike LeBron.

I've never considered "posse" to have racist undertones or meanings.

Besides, the definition of posse is a group of men that enforce the law, not break it. So I'm not sure how that would even be taken as an insult.

To me, posse will always mean these guys:

Phil Jackson likes to hear himself talk. He also likes to take shots at top players and coaches. It's just his nature. I'm sure he's probably more of a horse's rear end than most.

Apparently one that I wasn't aware of. Melo agreed with Lebron.

You just have to be careful how you use it. I mean, if you go up to a lady friend while she is hanging with her peeps, and you say "hey, is that your posse"?, you might get slapped. Not sure if that makes it racists though.

Definitions of posse:

 

a group of people who socialize together, especially to go to clubs or raves.

 

a group of people who have a common characteristic, occupation, or purpose.

 

the body of men in a county whom the sheriff could summon to enforce the law.

 

a body of men, typically armed, summoned by a sheriff to enforce the law.

Maverick Carter was just on The Herd and said that he didn't take it as racist. He did take it as an insult. Cowherd agreed on both basically saying guys like Phil, Riley, etc were the establishment guys. Then you have LeBron's associates with Carter and his other guys who now have built a brand and play where they want to play, make deals on their own, they don't need the "establishment" to make deals and be successful.
