I am wondering why no one is talking about the Paintsville-Prestonsburg game that has got to be one of the top games in the state this Friday. I say Paintsville wins but very close.

Ever since the arrival of Matney the Paintsville program has started to slip. And alot of that is credited to the statement that you made above. Before P-ville was always competitive and alot of times beat JC in the Apple Bowl but since Matneys arrival the tables have turned. The combined score of the last to Apple Bowls is 98-12 JC. Now not to many county kids are interested in being beaten like that so i think that why your seeing alot more of the county's kids stay in the JC program instead of going to P-ville. Some still choose to but not to the extent they used to.

 

So if this is the case, why have the Tigers made it further than the Eagles in the post season each year. The past two post seasons have not been too bright for the Black and Gold.

 

In comparison, the Ville has gone to the playoffs in both years and in which went to the Regional Championship game in one year.

 

Now the Apple Bowls may have been different than the final season outcome, but its all about how you finish.

 

I am not hating on the Eagles. I am just saying to not throw all your punches after the fight is over.

To the contrary... before Central's recent success and excepting Coach Musick's good teams, there were probably more out-in-Johnson Countians behind the Tigers as within-town Paintsvillians...

 

I wouldn't have said anything, but this "Paintsville is jumping on Central's bandwagon" stuff needs to have a little historical perspective shed on it...

 

I wish nothing but the best for Johnson Central, but comparatively speaking, the Eagles are the newcomers to GOOD Johnson Co. football.

Coach Matney said last year on WYMT after the apple bowl "The days of pushing Johnson Central around on the football field are over." You bring up a good point about alot of Johnson Countains being behind the tigers, that is true. Several players every year would leave the Johnson County school system and go to Paintsville before they got into high school. Now alot of players that would have left the and gone to Paintsville are staying at JC. As long as Paintsville has a football team, they are going to win 6 or 7 games every year and be in the playoffs, just for the simple fact that they are Paintsville.

If Central never got bigger than 1A, Central wouldn't enjoy the $$$ that allows the purchase of all the great facilities and coaches it currently has.

 

Truth be told, though, there likely wouldn't be two high schools in Johnson County. The county and city kids would be rolled into a bigger Paintsville High (or a different Johnson Cental with blue/white/black school colors)...

Actually, if borderline 3A/4A Central were placed in the 1A playoffs the past couple years and didn't go further than what Paintsville did....something would've been TERRIBLY wrong with the Eagles.

 

After all, Central wouldn't have been, on average, 5 times bigger than any other school...

What you say is mostly true. If Matney continues the progress at Central he's begun and stays long term, Central could indeed reach, and possibly surpass, the level of success some former Paintsville teams have attained.

People are moving into Pikeville at an alarming rate. Looks to me like Paintsville and Prestonsburg are growing as well...

If Paintsville ever decides to close, it will happen. The Johnson County system wouldn't have a choice. That's the way the system works.
