Motown Mt Rushmore

What about James Brown?

What about James Brown?

Shoot, my bad, Brown and Gordy really didn't get along. I don't think JB produced a record under Motown label.

Let's also not underscore the contributions of the songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland...

This is a tough , tough 4 to select.

Marvin Gaye

Stevie Wonder

Smokie Robinson

Gladys Knight

Oh, you're absolutely right that he wasn't an ideal 4th choice. That's why I was sticking to the Mount Rushmore "formula" by putting Barrett Strong in there with Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross.

Yeah, I'm still having issues here …

Marvin Gaye

Stevie Wonder

Smokie Robinson

Gladys Knight

Just realized I put Smokie instead of Smokey. This is embarrassing.

I didn't Michael on there because most of his hits as a solo were not done while at Motown.

James Brown did not record for Motown.

I realized that about Brown after I posted (#17). He and Gordy had different philosophies regarding sound.

Not an expert by any means with Motown...But Smokey, Diana and Gaye probably have to be unanimous. MJ, no. Maybe go with a group with the 4th spot? The Temptations, someone like that?
