Won by 10 the first half and 2 the second half. SK was Cottrell, Murray, Hayden and Cooper. Not sure else was missing from football. Kelch, Hawkins and Kitchens played good.

45-33 was first half score. 2nd half was 35-25 south with 3:40 to go. South emptied bench and sk left starters in rest way. 38-38 was 2nd half final score

What was the score? And who stood out on both teams?

 

For South Laurel, Grubb and Madden were both out.

Not that it matters since SK was without a few guys too, but South played without their best player, Grubb.

How did Scott and Conner do?

Who is #1 for Cov Cath? He had a nice sequence late in the game. First he pinned a layup against the board, then on the next possession had another facial during a layup attempt.

Scott beat Taylor (OH) 70-36.... Ohmer looked very impressive..... so did senior Jolley. Didn't stick around for the Connor CCD game.

A few thoughts from today:

 

- Dixie will be better than people realize. They are long and Hunter Meyer is easily one of the best senior guards in the area. Kid struggled at first but consistently beat his man off the dribble (CVH did get a couple back tips on him) and finished around the rim while also showing a nice mid range and outside shot. As far as Bradfield goes, one of the better bigs in the region and he surprisingly showed no fear attacking 6'10 Walter and trying to finish. Dixie overall looked much better in the 2nd half all around. Schreck is a nice junior and plays a lot like older brother Austin, except with a better outside shot. Dixie has a few shooters to compliment those three with Schweitzer and Thornberry. Depth is the biggest question I have with Dixie. Starting 5 is very solid though and has a good mix of size, length, and athleticism.

 

- CJ Fredrick definitely deserves the hype. Kid was really good today scoring at all three levels and also showing a high basketball IQ and constantly finding the open man when the ball was in his hands. Finished with 30+ and only attempted one shot in the 4th qtr. Most impressive all around player I saw today.

 

- As for the rest of CCH, CVH looked solid at both ends and Walter looks like a completely different kid, scoring at will around the rim and even throwing down a dunk off an oop from Fredrick in transition. Ruthsatz showed a decent mid range game in the 2nd half and the Colonels looked good defensively for the most part.Struggled rebounding in the 2nd half though which gave Dixie some easy looks around the rim or offensive rebounds and kickouts for wide open 3's.

 

- Nick Thelen needs to improve his offensive game but he is an impressive athlete for only being a soph at CCH. Colonels played without Jack Davin and AJ Mayer so didn't get to see those two. Everyone talks about the Colonels depth but my guess is they only go 7 or 8 deep this year in close games....

 

- Cooper looked like it was their first scrimmage compared to Oak Hills, who was playing their third scrimmage. McNeil is still trying improve his quickness coming off a foot injury so he struggled a little at both ends with just 12 points.

 

-Adam Kunkel, on the other hand, was easily the best player on the floor for either team. Kid is just so smooth and has a high basketball IQ, constantly talking to his teammates and trying to get them in the right place on both ends. Scored at all three levels and showed a nice touch from mid range and outside. Definitely, longer and more athletic this year.

 

-Boone transfer Noah Schidler and Runion off the bench will both be nice pieces to add to Cooper's depth once Hendrix comes back and Blaine Walters is going to have a breakout year for the Jags. 6'5 kid that is long and athletic and can score from anywhere on the floor. Cooper struggled with the physicality of Oak Hills but my guess is they won't see any team who plays that physical this year in the 9th and probably not too many teams from around the state.

Conner Varsity won the first have...when I walked in after the JV game Conner had 25 on the board and ended up with 50 in the first half.

 

2nd half Conner did much of the same. 4th quarter Coach Otte put in the JV team with about 3 minutes left. It was nice to see those young men get a chance to play up.

So, who actually won the SK game? Was told by a player at the scrimmages that SK JV won, but that the varsity lost. Can anyone confirm?

PSA for Dixie opponents: if you leave #14 alone on the perimeter he will count 3. Again and again. Incredibly impressive perimeter shooter.
