Lots of complaining in the Conner section tonight about the officials. I thought 2 of the PI calls were questionable but the rest of the calls were correct. It was clearly targeting on the hit to Dante's helmet. It was definitely taunting on Cain after he buried the kid and then stood over him. It was definitely illegal formation (or whatever the call is) when the Conner left tackle lined up too far off the line on a big run for Conner.

 

Unfortunately, Channel 64 was showing a replay of the the TD run and they missed the 2-point conversion. Something definitely looked odd watching it live. Hellbird says the official blew the whistle during the play. I was hoping to see that on the replay but couldn't.

 

Cooper killed themselves with false start penalties.

Both PI calls were good calls. Dante was mugged on both before the bakl got to him. The other calls you mentioned were good calls. The 2 pt conversion play was a disaster by the officials and when the punter fielded the snap on his knee was another big blown call, but the 2 pt conversion was the worst I've ever seen and I've seen some bad mistakes by officials in my time. The 2 pt conversion just has me scratching my head. I'm just glad neither one of those 2 didn't affect the outcome.

Sidenote: Big ups to the Cooper band. That was a really good halftime show. Love a good band.

As to the snap it was really hard to tell in real-time if his knee was down when he actually received the snap. I rewound it and it was just hard to tell. I do believe he was down though but I could see where there was some indecision due to Cody starting to come up as the ball was arriving.

The PI in the end zone he was hit by both defenders before the ball got there. Wasn't even close, the punt the official told Borchers his knee never touched the ground. Just a bad non call but again, didn't come close to the 2 pt conversion fiasco. That one was one for the tapes for officials to review for decades to come lol. The thing that made the conversion so bad is the white hat wasn't even watching as he was still backing up and then blew his whistle as he was looking up but by then the qb already had the ball. The side judge said to the sideline as everyone was complaining that "he would take care of it"

as if he knew it was illegal procedure as he was running out to have a conference with all the officials and then white hat overruled all the other officials and let the play stand. It was bad. The white hat then came over to the sidelines and simply said the whistle was the ready whistle...wth??? Lol. If it was the ready whistle the offense isn't allowed to touch the ball before the whistle but definitely can't snap the ball before the ready whistle. It was pretty amazing to see such a screw up.

Definitely blew the whistle, you could see several of the Cooper players react to it, they did not look like they were expecting a play to be ran.

Not only cooper players but also half the Conner players also stopped and stood straight up and looked back at the official. The qb even stopped and then took off running. I don't know what the play call was but I doubt it was qb keeper but because of the whistle and everyone else stopping it then became a qb keeper because no one else was playing.

I came to this game knowing that if Cooper could not stop Conner's newly inherited running back in the 4th qtr, Conner would get the win. Did not see enough weapons from Cooper to make a difference, and that hurts them when they play close games. Hendrix drives that team, and if can control (because you can't stop) him, you may have chance against the Jags. I still think the Region run is wide open for all four top NKY teams with Ryle a slight favor.

If I were to donate time and/or money to improve a field, it would not be Cooper's field. I care more about another team. (And I have contributed to the improvement of my team's fields.)

The field conditions would have been the same if played at Conner. Cooper and Conner may have the worst fields in NKY.

They actually are doing a couple projects to raise money for improvements etc and I believe a new field is one of them.

I understand about Cooner Field, indeed it is an old surface but Cooper was just installed (5 years ago?), so why is it in such bad shape? Has it been taken care of properly, meaning watering, reseeding and feeding or was someone upset by not getting turf when it was constructed? Yes I know it is used a lot for soccer and such but to be in such sad shape in such a short time, I don't understand?

Of the Boone County schools with grass fields, BCHS's is in the best shape. Conner's is rough and Cooper's is simply a mess. I'm not sure what any of the schools do to maintain the fields - doesn't appear to be a priority.

 

Ryle's field is tremendous - maybe the other schools can find donors to gift new fields. Upgrading athletic facilities are probably #32 on the list of BC school district priorities.
