October 10, 201610 yr There have been many Republicans who refused to endorse Trump and others have abandoned Trump over the past week. Many others were very reluctant to endorse him. If this election continues as it is headed and Hillary Clinton wins a clear victory, how will Trump supporters be viewed in 4 years? Will supporting Trump be something that will be used against Republican candidates in future elections? There is no doubt that those candidates not supporting Trump believe that is true. They fear being aligned with Trump will cost them in the current election or in a future election. OH Rep. Rob Portman who is in a battle for his seat publicly came out and said he will not vote for Trump. Undoubtedly, John Kasich is going to be saying "I told you so" loud and clear in 4 years. Is a Republican candidate who supports Trump risking his/her political future? Is this a political scarlet letter - pin a T on the Trump supporter/candidate and shame them out of running for office? How will a candidate being a Trump supporter impact how you vote for them?
October 10, 201610 yr We will only remember who supported him in 4 years when their opponent mentions it in their campaign.
October 10, 201610 yr I don't think so. Most have been lukewarm endorsements (i.e. seems clear they can't stand Trump, but are toeing the party line). I think guys like Rubio and Ryan will be major players again in 2020. I think you'll see guys that have refused to endorse Trump (Ben Sasse comes to mind) be major players as well.
October 10, 201610 yr Author We will only remember who supported him in 4 years when their opponent mentions it in their campaign. And I think their opponents will make an issue of it. Will that impact how anyone votes? Is being a Trump supporter an albatross around their neck?
October 10, 201610 yr And I think their opponents will make an issue of it. Will that impact how anyone votes? Is being a Trump supporter an albatross around their neck? A smart politician will simply say, "when I endorsed Trump... I was supporting the American people that supported Trump..." In other words, "I didn't believe in the man, but I support and respect the American public that did"... Then, move onto your stance on the issues of the day.
October 10, 201610 yr I could see it maybe being similar to the O stuck on Dems here in KY. The primary reason may be because of a possible Nov 8 disaster of losing to HRC and losing the Senate which will mean the SC is gone too.
October 10, 201610 yr Author Paul Ryan said he will never again campaign with Donald Trump and will focus on helping Republicans running for Congress. Ryan did not pull his endorsement of Trump but Trump and his supporters are all over Ryan for making this statement in his morning Congressional conference call. The Scarlet T.

Is this a political scarlet letter - pin a T on the Trump supporter/candidate and shame them out of running for office? How will a candidate being a Trump supporter impact how you vote for them? I don't believe so. In a month, most "regular" people won't remember what politicians supported Trump, and I definitely don't think it will matter in 4 years.
October 10, 201610 yr I don't believe so. In a month, most "regular" people won't remember what politicians supported Trump, and I definitely don't think it will matter in 4 years. I can assure you that negative campaign ads and the national media will be happy to remind us, repeatedly, when that time comes.
October 10, 201610 yr And I think their opponents will make an issue of it. Will that impact how anyone votes? Is being a Trump supporter an albatross around their neck? I don't think it will be an issue if Trump does not get elected. He goes away and we all forget about him.
October 10, 201610 yr This question is both too late and premature. For many of us, the answer has been clear for a long time, so the question is too late. For the rest, the question is premature. Why ask it now, things are only going to get worse from here to election day. The party has not fractured yet, but that is coming. Remember all those other times where the VP and P nominee are like this? When the party leaders openly abandon the P candidate? When dozens of senators and congressmen and etc all call for his head? Nobody remembers it b/c it never has happened. That's the opening sounds of the fracture. People say he stopped the bleeding with the debate performance. LOL. The parade of vulgarity is just getting started. This is just the opening round. Expect new disturbing allegations and details every day. Zero chance that there aren't worse tapes and videos out there, and HRC is just sitting around, waiting to "leak" them.

Opposition research gone wild !!!! More Republican legislators set to abandon him in droves. Watch for more tapes soon !!!
October 11, 201610 yr I don't think it will be an issue if Trump does not get elected. He goes away and we all forget about him. Wouldn't that be nice but...Trump is too much of an attention seeker to ever just go away. After the election is over he will continue to use all available means (twitter, media etc...) to keep his opinions and pot shots in the ears of the masses. For a megalomaniac like Donald, this election is his fuel and he is just getting started. We won't hear the end of him until his dying day, and the media, and the masses will eat it up. Besides, what does he have to lose anyway?

Seems Wikileaks is starting to release some unfavorable emails. Then again, her supporters won't care how corrupt she is proven to be. The media will do her bidding also. That's the difference between the Right and the Left. When the Right's candidate is shown to do something untoward, he is called on it and the media pounces. When the Left's candidate is shown to do something untoward, she gets a boatload of excuses and the media says "nothing to see here".
