I'd call it having a good accountant. It's not brilliant, it's a CPA knowing enough to avoid committing professional malpractice.

 

In the end, I agree with Clyde and others that this isn't an effective argument for me. He didn't pay taxes because he's suffered losses or taken depreciation.

 

The more compelling argument to me is that if he took a billion dollars in losses and since we don't know the truth of it, it would seem to be a further opportunity to attack whether his "business sense" is as great as he claims. Whenever anyone questions it, he flies off the handle.
