MANY posters have said this over the last few years...what does that say about Dale, that he would jump ship when he knew the rough days were coming?

 

Well sure it does. You don't see coaches up and resign, or even move on for that matter; unless they know things aren't going to be like what they've been.

It says he got out at the right time. Anybody with that legacy and legitimate retirement eligibility would've done the same.

 

I don't blame him one bit, but plenty of coaches out there currently and over the years have retired from their classroom-administrative duties yet kept coaching.

On the platooning, I had some Highlands fans tell me previously that they didn't have a lot of great athletes, they just prepared the proper amount to play "their" position very well without being a great athlete. Do you think that was true, or do you think they had better athletes then everyone else at the time? I ask, because I thought they made a good argument for not having the best athletes but learning the process of platooning and knowing it's benefits better then other programs.

 

To follow up: If they did in fact, do a better job of preparing average athletes to play a position to compliment the great athletes, what changed? Is it the coaching staff? Or, is the players? Something else?

 

I haven't seen Highlands a lot over the past couple years but saw a lot of them when Dale was the coach. They did have a few superior athletes when Dale was the coach but the bulk of the teams were average athletes (as are almost all high school teams). One thing about those teams is they played smart. You rarely saw players taking bad angles and players knew when to force a player to the sideline or when to force him inside to your help. Mueller was also king of half time adjustments.

You might be on to something here. I was told that Jason Lynch could break down film like no other. He left this year and who replaced him? I know a former head coach in NKY approached BW about helping out and he was simply ignored for fear of someone maybe getting their toes stepped on.

Could be, but unless they are completely incompetent; I don't know how they can't figure it out. Also, I don't think Dale would have hired them nor kept them on staff to begin with.

 

But, I still say a talent drop off. Yes, even at Highlands compared to those on their schedule right now.

Absolutely not, but they don't get out if the wave is still going to be riding high, either. I'm not blaming the guy. I get it. Coaches move on; either in retirement-resignation, or onto other jobs when the picking isn't going to be as ripe.

 

It's a hard pill to swallow, because we are then somehow placing blame on kids and their abilities instead of accountability on the adults. It's not PC, but its fact.

Pretty young girls like new houses.

I was about to say the same thing. Longtime reader, but not so much on the posting side.
