It has always been about the Jimmies and The Joes. Sure, Dale was an inspirational guy with a great football mind but they had superior talent and it allowed them to platoon, They clearly cannot do that anymore.

He needs more time than a Bye week to revamp a defense. I heard he got involved but Rome want built in a day, especially when you have lack of talent and you insist on platooning.

 

Memo to Highlands fans.....Brent Grover, Zach Hurt, Luke Stein, Austin Collinsworth, Brandon Roller. Double A Austin Abner and his brother Cowboy aren't walking through that door anymore.

On the platooning, I had some Highlands fans tell me previously that they didn't have a lot of great athletes, they just prepared the proper amount to play "their" position very well without being a great athlete. Do you think that was true, or do you think they had better athletes then everyone else at the time? I ask, because I thought they made a good argument for not having the best athletes but learning the process of platooning and knowing it's benefits better then other programs.

 

To follow up: If they did in fact, do a better job of preparing average athletes to play a position to compliment the great athletes, what changed? Is it the coaching staff? Or, is the players? Something else?

That theory may have bode well the last few years to support platooning but they have been exposed and the time is now to call in the Calvary. Play guys both wAys if you Wantto salvage this season,

Dale Mueller knew what he was doing getting out. He knew things weren't going to be what they had been. I find it really hard to believe that the man who was behind those defenses (Weinrich) when Highlands was going on there run is really that bad of a head coach.

Point one: I have heard the "Dale knew when to get out" statement before. Nothing against you, but I don't believe for a second that Dale retired because he knew the talent level was dropping. I just don't see that as being the reason.

 

Point two: I agree for the most part, if he could coach defense then, he should be able to coach it now. But, I have to say, I have known many assistant coaches and coordinators who were great at what they did, but turned out to be very bad Head Coaches. It does happen.

Often the difference between a great coordinator and the lack of success transitioning to a Head Coach comes in the small details, organization, and most importnatly of all DELEGATION

 

Could it be that either BW is having trouble delegating proper responsibilities or having trouble holding his buddies accountable when they come up short?

It says he got out at the right time. Anybody with that legacy and legitimate retirement eligibility would've done the same.
