Is Boyle really down?

Featured Replies

That's all I seem to hear is that Boyle County is down. I hear it from the fans, rivals, "experts", etc. I just don't see it or believe it. i remember when Brandon Smith was the new quarterback and Boyle County was supposed to be "down", especially after they lost to Danville that year. They still won state. So they lost to Henry Clay, this year and last, I still have a hard time believing that they are down. I guess we will see on Friday, but I would not be very surprised at all if they beat Danville and give Mercer all they can handle. Don't sleep on Boyle County yet, this is just week 3.

Being "down" at Boyle County, after such astonishing dominance, could be a year with 2 losses and no state title. I think they'll be alright.

Losing a game is one thing. Getting pounded 57-10 is another. I'd say all indications to this point are that Boyle is down. That doesn't mean they can't improve and be a good team later this year.

Boyle bounced back from a pretty bad loss to Henry Clay last year to beat Danville by 2 TDs. They may lose this week, and they may lose any of the 2 or 3 games after that, but this is still a pretty good team.

Are they "down" when measure against teams that won five straight titles? Yes. Are they one of the best 2 or 3 teams in AAA on paper? No. But they aren't exactly falling off the face of the earth.

A lot of programs would celebrate what might be considered a "down year" by Boyle County's sky-high standards.

I believe in the Boyle Co football program! I've watched some of these kids progress up through the elementary, middle school and JV programs and turn into talented athletes whose names draw the attention of the opposing teams across the state of Kentucky. To have a top notch program, you have to want more from your players. And when they have given all they think they have, you dig for more.

You hit the weight room with the knowledge that the stronger you are, the better you can handle the big kid lined up across from you. You learn the plays and get smart about the game, which allows you to adapt to changing situations created by the other team trying to find the edge. But above all else, they have to believe in their hearts that they are the best. That's what keeps a team on the field for four quarters, fighting till the last whistle blows.

If the leadership of this program can find a way to bring out the heart in these kids, they may have a chance. We'll see!

By the way, last year we ran with Henry Clay for the first half and into the third quarter until an interception turned the game. We didn't even make it through the first quarter this year. Something positive needs to happen to help these kids, and the program, turn the corner.

If so, then cheer them up.

Remember a few years ago when Boyle's winning streak was snapped by Danville and then they turned around and laid an egg the next week in a loss to West Jessamine? They had a new QB named Brandon Smith and some questioned his ability to lead the team effectively because the offense had been sputtering. Well, he got a few more games under his belt, Boyle won the state championship, and he ended up being a finalist for Mr. Football his senior year. History has proven that you shouldn't count Boyle County out. This is just a blip on the radar.

I agree totally. They have alot of young kids playing. How are so many young kids suppose to react against a buzzsaw like Henry Clay? They started off great. But, Henry Clay was too explosive. Boyle is going to be fine this year. I will be at the game friday cause I know it will be a good one. Don't turn your back on the Rebels.

It is still hard to tell how the season is going to go for Boyle. They got beat by a good Henry Clay team and they beat a mediocre Harrison County team. Boyle being "down" is still going 10-3 and making it to the region finals. They might not be as dominating as they were with Chuck Smith, but come playoff time this team will be ready to make a run.

I wish they hadn't lost to Henry Clay mostly cause now they really want to prove the doubters wrong. We don't need and even more determined Boyle team coming to Mercer on sept 15th. I've seen Boyle play mad a few times and it's not pretty. I would say they will be pretty fired up Friday.

I think after this past weeks performance they are really down. But seriously, after an astonishing run from years past, most expect perfection. But Henry Clay truly is no slouch and this is just the beginning to a full season with plenty of time to right their ship towards a successful season.

Boyle Co. may not dominate like 3-6 years ago, but they are still one of the top programs in the state and will be a top 25 overall team year in and out.

That what I was thinking.

It was good to see some positive comments about Blake Robbins in the Advocate Messenger yesterday. As a senior, it's important that they step up and take a leadership role, and this can be influenced by the coaching staff. Positive comments will go further toward bringing out the "heart" in these players.

The matchup with Danville Friday is important to both teams and creates a lot of natural energy within the players. Both teams will want "bragging rights" but BC needs the victory. Beating Danville will help them turn the corner and get ready to face the next three games on their schedule, Lafayette (3rd in their region - Henry Clay is currently ranked 4th), Mercer (who is already showing they mean business from the first hits of the game) and Southwestern (who gave Danville a run for their money).

I'm going to holler for BC and give them the edge over Danville Friday. I support both teams but Boyle Co needs this victory.
